I have a question that I can't seem to answer from researching the Sarna pages on toumans.
What is the difference between Point 1 - 5 and a Point Commander?
According to Sarna, every mech in a point is assigned their point number, but this is assigned by the Point Commander, so who/what and where is the Point Commander in this structure?
Point Commander would seem the same in rank as anyone of Point 1 - 5.
Here is some links I have been looking at:
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Touman

http://www.sarna.net...int_1#The_Clans (same as Point 2)
http://www.sarna.net...int_3#The_Clans (same as Point 4 and 5)

To clear some thing up for the OP
The Inner Sphere and Clans use different organisational structures
And Yes a mech is a point, but PILOTED by a point commander.
In essense the pilot is in command of his mech and is thus the point commander.
Its the lowest rank of mech warrior in the clan ranking system.
A group of mechs or points is something different.
In the Inner Sphere a group of 4 mechs is called a lance.
The Clan equivalent of a lance is called a Star of 5 mechs.
But it is not led by a point commander but by a Star Commander as a point commander only commands their own mech, where as a Star commander commands a Star of mechs, 5 mechs or points including themselves
In an Inner Sphere lance comprised of 4 mechs, within each lance is usually some hierarchy, corporal, lieutenant, etc
Same goes for the clan star with point 1 being the most senior rank; Star Commander and point 5 being the lowest rank or something close.
Hope this clears it up

Congratulations! This is not only a long-time necro, it also revives a thread that actually has nothing to do with MWO!
