Does your targeting reticle flash Red when your CLIENT "thinks" you scored a hit, or when the server reports to the client that it did.

I am pretty sure it is when "it did"

I am basing this on that I always see it flash when I know I did but sometimes I can hit targets and it doesn't flash (and they dont seem to have taken dmg) and this is usually glancing blows (usually... :))

When the server reports to the client that you hit, it flashes red.

The million dollar question is how the hell that technology works.

I was wondering about this. Sometimes on Tourmaline my lasers "appear" to hit those crystal spikes on top of hills but the reticle still reports a "hit" by turning red.

I think it turns red whenever it feels like it with no rhyme or reason.

I've seen it turn red when I launch 100 LRMs into the side of a mountain and when trying to shoot over those crystal lumps on tourmaline when I blast them 5 feet in front of my mech it turns red too. Sometimes the target seems to take damage when I hit the hill in front of me and other times they don't.

No telling what's going on.

I'm pretty sure sometimes my reticle turns red even though I hit an obstacle between me and my target.

And with TAG, it lights red even if you hit a friendly.

I think it does that with all weapons, but as far as I know a red crosshair means you hit someone. Doesn't mean 90% of those missiles you fired didn't miss completely so don't make too many assumptions when using those.

My crosshair has also turned red while my LRM's are being shot down by enemy AMS well before whatever is left of them reach the target

My ping is between 98 - 110ms

I pay no attention to it anymore and go off the damage model

The "hitcoin" as it is colloquially called appears to be server-side and can occasionally glitch- not lighting up when the hit did register.

You can always count on the damage report of the enemy's paperdoll; as it isn't updated until the enemy has taken damage.

It flashes red when your client thinks you scored a hit.

If it's not already red and the server confirms a hit it might flash red also but that's just a suspicion.

It all depends on what the server rolls. Only snake eyes and boxcars give you a hit (sevens for spiders).

Or did it actually really ripped the armor off. I love having my reticle flash red only to have the paper doll never update.

Magic and hopes, my friend. As soon as our hopes shattered, so did the technology.

The flashing red is "supposed" to demonstrate a successful hit.

It doesn't work as intended™, as shots hitting through the terrain at times still count as hits, and the paperdoll updates tend to remain unchanged, despite them flashing showing where you hit the target.

So, it's kinda useless at this point in time.

The word I've always heard was that it was the server reporting a successful hit to the client. Pre-HSR it was how you could tell when you hit, since the visual shot was near useless. And until the last few months, when they screwed up hit detection with their net-code "improvements", it always worked, as far as I could tell.
