It doesn't have the greatest heat efficiency so it's gotta be nursed a bit. The idea is to snipe at targets with the PPC while closing, using the LB-10/X once there's a hole in the armour. If you're in close, you can add the SRMs to help blow some extra armour off. The Mediums are really there as back-ups, or if you've got a weakened target in front of you and you need just a bit more damage to finish it off
Well, I'd suggest against lasers. Weapons with beams go against some of the strengths of the Victor chassis. Because it has JJs and spreads damage so well while torso twisting, projectile weapons work so much better.
Other than that, the build depends on what you choose for your ballistic weapon. That is what you think of the Gauss rifle. If you like the way it works, make a gauss + ppc build. If on the other hand you hate the gauss rifle, you can go for the AC10.
To help you choose, here's video of Villz playing his 9K, so you can see how an AC10/PPC build works in practice:

Depends doesn't it, on if you use your VTR to hold back and such, or get int and scrap up close and personal?
Not germane to the 9K, but my DragonSlayer rocks it with 2 AC5 and 2 large Lasers, and does well at all ranges. For pop and drop shooting I agree with the PPCs (my 9B, wuns 2 PPC with the ac20, though is a skosh hot), where my "chaos sowers" my 9S and 9K, I tend to jump over terrain, land in the midst of the enemy, within 100 meters, unload and get out, and tbh, have never really found the lasers a detriment.
IDK, I see people run both (and do both myself). The only things I hate seeing on VTRs are dedicated Poptarts (Highlanders do it better if you aren't gonna use that mobility!) or LRM Victors. Something about LRMs on Victors just feels sacrilegious, lol.
I don't want to spend the money for 2 new PPCs (800k is way to much), so looking through my alternatives I ran this VTR-9K using the unloved LPLs. Only ran one game so far and it was on frozen city, but I got 2 kills and did 560ish damage (highest damage on my team with most others 300-400).

Whatever works I always say. I find it funny how everyone hates LPLs and claim that they were nerfed with the extra heat that they got several patches ago but I believe that they were buffed. Aside from the DoT mechanic hurting it, they have the highest damage output and DPS of the whole energy class. To me that makes them worth it for brawling.
Shadey, did you activate the Premium Time that came with your Overlord package? It would help with your grinding a bit.
Yes, which is why I'm back to 3.5 mil even though I only play an hour or so a night (however long it takes for 6 wins, 3 Victors & 3 Jenners, if I have time)... It's also why except for my 9K all of those are nearly mastered... A good win is nearly (or sometimes more than) 4k xp and 170-200k cbills. Even most losses are 500-1k xp and 80-140k cbills.

For quite awhile my Firebrand ran a 2xLPL+2xUAC5 build. Chewed through just about everything as long as you didn't go overboard with the LPLs... However they do run hot, which is why I think I did slightly better on Frozen City then I would on a map like Caustic. However they are much better than a pair of ER PPCs in that regard. If only it didn't have an optimal range of 350-400m...
This is the best 9K loadout I've used.
XL380, 2xJJ, AC10, 2xPPC.
Fast and agile, 30 pinpoint damage, heat's not bad, good endurance.
Don't brawl, don't stand in the open, don't stand at the front. Move behind cover, get in a good position, let someone else go first - you can shoot over them. Pop up every 4 seconds and nail an enemy with 30 damage.
It's a pale shadow of the effectiveness of my old gauss + 2xERPPC 9K, but it's still pretty good.
