Anyone try this awesome thing? Keyboard. I've been looking at it as my Saitek Cyborg has reached 3 years now and its getting a bit, boring. Need a new keyboard and toss this old one to my boy.

If you've tried is it awesome, or is it just cool for a bit, then the "neatness" wears out?

I think my wife is going to get it for me since I've been hammering about it for the last two weeks but it will take a bit of design work on my part since my keyboard lays on a keyboard tilt thing and has a wooden rest so the keyboard doesn't slide off covered in some black leather, that can easily come off. (Thinking of a rubber pad that is ribbed with a lip on it)

I am not familiar with it. However, I have used many other Razer products and found their build quality and durability to be quite suspect at times.

QFT - I'm not impressed with them. I've had $30 keyboards last longer then my friends Razer keyboards. I have a 6 year old Enermax Caesar that has been great, no it's not fancy and over priced, but it's done excellent for me in tandem with my Nostromo N52te by Belkin with Razer doing the software. I can't fault Razer for software, just quality.

It is a Razer. It will look worn and/or be broken a month after you buy it. Also, the glassy finish+touchscreen has received poor reviews -- it is difficult to see what it displays.

If you want a truly good gaming keyboard, look for mechanical keyboard manufacturers, e.g. Filco or Das. Buy simple, it will last forever.

If you want a keyboard for typing, check out the flat ones with scissor mechanisms (laptop-like). Apple makes the best one in my opinion, followed closely by Cherry and Logitech. Note that these do not have N-key rollover, so pressing multiple keys will not always register properly.

Thanks Modo,

I've not read it has been difficult to display on that LCD part. Really only reason I wanted it for the awesome factor of it. My keyboard is perfectly fine and if the display is garbage then thats reason enough not to get it.

As for Razor quality, I can't do anything more than listen to what others have said, I know my brothers Naga lasted 3 or so years with ease, but I know others who don't buy them as they find them not durable. I just recently bought a Razer Naga Hex for MWO as I find the key layout to be better and easier than my Logitech 6500 and thats my first Razer product.

Take it form me, Modo doesn't have a clue as to what he's talking about. While razer quality is suspect on some prodcts such as the anasi, the deathstalker ultimate is 100% top rate. Very easy to macro with custom buttons for things like cool shot, artillery strike, etc. I've had mine for 6 months or so, and I have had no issues whatsoever with key wear or touch screen functionality. The touchscreen looks BEAUTIFUL, and it's great to be able to youtube in mid match for the correct match soundtrack. The one thing I can't argue. . the wrist rest DOES attract anything that may be nearby. . . dust, cat hair, crumbs, dead skin cells. . but a saturated towel cleans that right off.

This is *NOT* to say that the deathstalker ultimate is flawless.

1) The keys.

Ultra short throw membrane style key-set. I knew this going in, and am used to these kinds of keyboards. My PTT key is the ~ button. I fat finger occasionally and hit the 1 key by accident. If I do it at the wrong time, I get chewed out by a team member for shooting them in the back. *SHOULD* have been MX cherry [favorite color here] mechanicals

2) Synapse

When it works, it works well. Occasionally it does not work, though it worked yesterday and will work again after you fiddle with it and/or uninstall reinstall it.

assuming you can get it to work at all, and a few people I know just *CAN'T*. Synapse refuses to detect their device, even a week in.

3) Size

I had to quit using it because of this. I was using this thing between an orb weaver and a naga, and I think I tore something in my left arm being so spaced apart. Sure, I don't HAVE to use the orbweaver, but it beat the hell out of fat fingering alphas into the guy in front of me when attempting to hit the PTT key.

4) Price.

$250 retail for a non mechanical switch keyboard. I don't care *HOW* useful the screen is. . it's not worth that price.

[note: i did not pay that price. If you have a good day on Ebay, you don't have to either. Your mileage may vary]

5) Synapse

I know I said it twice, that's b/c Synapse is twice as bad as everything else

Ultimately it comes down to this: Are you looking at it as eye candy or as a functional piece of gaming equipment. If it's eye candy and you have the cash, have at you. It is a *WONDERFUL* keyboard for certain tasks, general computing, playing youtube vids while working on spreadsheets. . for a non mechanical keyboard it types fairly well.

Gaming is NOT necessarily a task at which the deathstalker ultimate excels. the keys aren't "mushy", but the short throw and membrane feel can throw you off, even after you're used to it. it's EXTREMELY easy to lose your place on the keyboard if you're not staring at it [and when you're trying to line up that gauss shot, you're probably not]

Ultimately, you can buy two ducky shine 3s for the price of this thing. Come to think of it, you can buy at least two of any other keyboard for it's retail price. Is it worth the price? I own one, and I have to say "probably not"

But *OH MAN* that extra screen is shiny and drop dead useful at times.

not to mention a lot of fun

And fully programmable

Been usi g a logitech g15 with great results for years. When I finally replace it, it will be a newer version of the same kb. LCD at top center rocks and the programmable keys work great for me. Combined with a g13 gamepad, gaming life is good.

Sen,

Thanks I was hoping someone that has owned one would be here, but the reviews are very few so I wasn't sure anyone in the MWO gaming community even had one. Your pros pretty much summed up what I wanted one for, and it looks like it excels at that. The cons are very similar to what I thought they would be, but the keys layout might be an issue for me. I'm half tempted to go by a normal Deathstalker at Walmart down the road, see how the layout works and if it does well with my adjustment, return it and do the upgrade.

In the end though, I think I'll skip it this year, I've checked the Ebay prices and they are right around $150, and newegg has them for $190.00.

I run a Roccat Ryos MK Pro and Kone XTD combo.

Mechanical switches are so worth it. Using the Cherry browns for a nice soft sound with clicky feel.

I had a Razer Blackwidow Stealth which is also comprable which I sold to a friend. I think the Roccat items are a better quality and I like the software better.

Its a keyboard, therefore it will get beer spilt on it at some point. Nuff said.

Just be advised, they're not quite the same. My son uses a standard deathstalker. The keys are a little mushier and the wrist rest is harder plastic. It's not BAD. . but it's not really great either. You're better off upgrading to something like the black widow ultimate if you've gotta have a razer.

Just sayin' ;)

Err.. should of clarified, the adjustment of my keyboard will need a bit of handy work to even get the Deathstalker on. Since I have to remove the current palmrest which is built in it and make something so the keyboard doesn't slide off. I'd prefer a $150+ keyboard not to falling off constantly.

^thats what i use. Pretty durable overall, dont really have any complaints, I also use a Razer nostromo pretty much exculsively for this game, dont know what it is about it but it feels like everything handles better with it. Oh and a heads up, sometimes if your using a controller or joystick the razer and whatever butheads and cancel out...dont know why but thats what happens for me sometimes.

The frame is all one piece. I'm not 100% that the wrist rest part of the standard deathstalker will come out. . it may just be more molded plastic. I'd look at one before buying it and see if it's possible to do what you're looking at.

To remove the whole thing you'd have to cut the keyboard in half >.>

To the rest of you, suggesting logitech keyboards. . . believe it or not, there are some people out there who just don't like the feel of them/realize what junk THEY are for the price. Cheap mushy keys and over pixelated screens, being forced to use THEIR software...

[which, granted, I haven't, though I've heard complaints about programming MOUSE keys -- not quite the same, I know]

If he was asking for a recommendation, I'd say ducky, or the Corsair Vengeance series...

But if you want the ultimate best keyboard ever made (or at least a reproduction version)

http://www.pckeyboard.com/

Won't ever find a more comfortable or more durable keyboard. EVER!

No, I'm *NOT* joking, actually...
