After seeing a lot of the builds here, I know why people complain about LRMs. More than half of you don't run AMS.

I almost never run AMS, I also never complain about missiles being to effective. It is way to easy on most maps to simple avoid the missiles. Or even better simply stand next to the 2 or 3 Atlas D-DCs on almost every team.

And this is why people who say "LRM's take no skill!" **** me off. Ballistics requires you to aim. LRM's require you to have excellent situational awareness to position properly, and carry and use extra equipment (TAG) to make your weapons viable.

Neither direct or indirect fire weapons are 'easymode.' They require different skillsets and playstyles.

While true, I see lots of people stand out in the open and get hammered. And they don't do anything about it. They just eat missiles.

An example would be on Monday on Alpine. We went down the 8 line going around and enemy Alpha Lance that starts there now had 2 missile carrying mechs. As I looked at the LRMs coming in I noticed none of the 4 guys standing in front of me had AMS going off. Two of them died after awhile. It's because they see builds since lots of people don't put it in, they do the same.

My current Thunderbolt builds:

TDR-5S

You could add Endo or Ferro Fibrous and add an AMS to it.

TDR-5SS

New build for me, so far have been very happy with it.

TDR-9SE

New as well, not quite sure if I'm going to keep this build. It has performed okay.

Alpine is actually one of the worst maps to be an LRM boat on (And since I have owned all Catapults and run a BLR-1S I've been there many a time)... Distances are extreme and there is simply to much cover that one can pass behind, block line of sight, and walk around the missile splash site. One cannot expect a good game if one plays oblivious to everything.

Actually I meant the H line not the 8 line. If you start on the lower base and go straight and then right instead of going straight to the tower hill. If you go that way, there is a lot of open ground if you don't go around the mountain towards the path that leads to there base. All they need is one guy spotting.

AMS only when my mech is going slower than 70kph, else I can usually dodge them.
Im primary a medium mech pilot.

im still scarred from the LRMPOCALYPSE, AMS is basically standard on most of my mechs (Med up that is)
besides there is no better feeling then watching as 4-6 people with AMS sitting in an area and seeing volley after volley of LRM just go away :D

(also they sound awesome )

5SS

Found a version of this online and its really good. Plenty of reach and not too difficult to manage the heat.

Mine was 2PPC & 4ML. However, Thunderbolts are seriously, utterly, terminally OK. They're not awful, they're not great. They're really, smashingly, resoundingly OK.

This. Real hard.

I personally think they're hideous. And I know thats a matter of opinion, and I realize that all my experiences in them are colored by my own prejudice.

They're still ugly. And I still can't make them perform up to par. Also I can't seem to nail down what they should be good at.
