While I admit that Clan tech is probably going to be imbalanced, I think a solution might be reached through intelligent discussion of suggestions. I have some interesting suggestions about Clan tech detailed below.

1. Force Clan mechs to use Omni

What I mean by this is, while all clan mechs would be able to mount any weapon on their hardpoints, each hardpoint would have a weight limit, and only weapons could be changed out. Not engines or BAPs or ECMs. Only weapons. This would help nerf clan because they would be less flexible in many ways. For instance, a 14 ton hardpoint could mount a PPC or AC/20. But if you put a PPC in, the extra 7 tons would go unused. This would make clan mech configurations a bit less diverse, but it would not completely destroy their modification potential.

2. Make clan weapons weigh the same as IS weapons

This would not help enough to balance out clan, but it might help a little tiny bit to make the game more balanced. Basically clan weapons with an IS equivalent would weight the same as that equivalent rather than 1 or 2 tons less as usual. This would make clan mechs less able to massively outgun IS mechs.

3. Make clan weapons fire a bit slower

This would not help much but it would be helpful to maintain non-OPness of clan. I mean slower by, at most, 0.5 seconds.

4. Make Clan mechs larger(larger hitboxes and size).

This would make clan mechs slightly easier to hit and help IS pilots destroy clan scum without endangering themselves as much.

5. Make Clan weapons have less ammo per ton as IS weapons

This would make clan mechs need to make more space for ammo and mount less weapons, as well as making them vulnerable to ammo explosion more. Overall, a good balancer.

EDIT: I am not a ***** who thinks Clan and IS should be equal, nor am I against change in small amounts. I just want a fun Mechwarrior game that is not stupidly unbalanced.

EDIT 2: Wow. They censored i-d-i-o-t(those are the letters in the word, not the word). Thats crazy.

So...you want them to be weaker and more useless than IS mechs? Horrible idea dude, the idea was that clan mechs were superior!

Have you ever played the older games? Clan tech is better in every way, they lost because IS used their traditions against them.

Clan weapons are better in range, weight, how much space they use, and they can put more weapons on their mech and not over heat as much.

I rather they stick to clan lore but allow more IS mechs against them.

I don't think Clan should be useless. Nor that IS and Clan should be equal. I think Clan should not make IS useless. Also, I think following MW4 and making Clan tech make more heat is a good idea.

Okay you must be new to Battletech.
  • 1) PGI is already doing something like this with not being able to touch the engine, armor and some other things. No need to make it overly complicated.
  • 2) You cannot do this at all since it will break all stock Clan mechs.
  • 3) Again Paul mentioned doing this with making the lasers burn over longer periods of time and RoF can be easily changed to balance the two factions.
  • 4) Have you seen the Clan mechs!??? They look like they will have issues with hitboxes as is. Add to it that you might not be able to change armor values and placement and you get a mech that will die if someone sneezes on it.
Nothing that you posted actually would balance the game and instead make IS mechs OP. Better that PGI does their thing and ignores suggestions like this that is heavily biased and game breaking.

Just so everyone reading this knows, I made this thread for discussion, not so people would come in and tell everyone else here they suck. If you have ideas, make them known and explain them rather than just telling everyone else they are wrong and leaving.

EDIT: Thanks for that info FireSlade. I am not new to BattleTech, however, I do not own much of the board games or books. I am also sorry I sounded biased, I will try not to in the future.

I was not trying to offend but #2 sounded like you did not understand how changing weights and slots would break all of the Clan designs. I am a clanner and will be fighting for Clan Wolf but that does not mean that I want to have OP mechs to fight with. I like a challenge and want there to be a balance so that my 45 IS mechs are not made obsolete. I also want there to be no sharing tech so that the IS equipment does not become obsolete. But I also do not want to see that Clan mechs are so weak that it is not worth using them, making Clan mechs obsolete. I am all for ideas to balance but what Paul stated is a pretty good start and sounds like they will be pretty balanced. Then again we will never know before June 17th.
