Maybe it's because the Clanners won't be "loyal" to a specific Inner sphere faction? I dunno, but I don't really care either.

But wouldn't they have their own factions to be "loyal" to? I'm just curious about the potential implications of this down the road. I had assumed people would be able to "pledge allegiance" to a specific Clan (such as how we're currently aligned with different IS factions) and work your way up those ranks (such as how CW has been explained for IS players so far) . However this would suggest that this isn't the case. If that's true, then I ask "what gives?" Ghost Loyalty Points?

as I said, I don't object to $500 mech skins. Make cool patterns that stand out but *fit* visually, sure. Add alternate geometry (replacement Atlas head, for example)? Sure. But a gold skin?

and tbh, gold skin makes mroe sense on the non strict and spartan IS warriors than clan mechs. That is the part I can't get

SO, apparently "Pimp my Mech" was precursor of hip hoppity things to come. Gold Plated Omni mechs? Because, after all that talk of "adjusting weapons to make them fit the mythos", gold plating Omnis really fits.
http://www.mwomercs.com/clans

And seriously... they better pack a gold plated mini of each mech with that purchase, hand numbered and signed by Alex.

I was a white knight. Now?

SMH.

Can't have variants if its an omni mech. Maybe that's what the 500 mechs are. Real omni mechs.

well, that would indeed make the "golds" in every sense of the word, wouldn't it.

we've known they wouldn't be 'real' omnimechs all along, as as it stands the is mechs are arguably more omni than the proper clan omnimechs.

Full 'omni' hardpoints+swappable engines etc on the golds would plung the game into so much glorious p2w I'd probably never stop laughing and/or crying.

I'm not going to kick you while you're down, Bishop. I'll just discreetly collect your Order of the White Knight and Operation: Working as Intended medals. :)

No community warfare or any meaningfull gameplay progression = no more purchases from me. Ill be playing world of tanks till they release community warfare as atm all we seen is lots of cash grabs with mechs for a sandbox with very little meaningfull changes to gameplay.

No, sadly there's too many people who grew up with the MechWarrior games who will curse PGI but still shell out for the $240 packs.

I did the same with the Phoenix/Saber 'mechs I grew up with, so I'm not condemning anyone here (or, perhaps I'm condemning us all).

But man, $500 gold skin? That's worse than that $70 monocle by a whole order of magnitude.

$240 for 24 'mechs isn't all that bad a deal though - if you're into Clans, which I personally am not. And I fully understand everyone that's saying "Show us the game first, then we might purchase" too.

I don't think this was the reaction PGI/IGP had anticipated for their Clan reveal - which one might say only shows the gulf between them and their player base.

So no, it's not the death knell, but it's someone reaching for the clapper.

I'm definitely in the "Show me the game" camp.

Well, "Show me the game" and "Show me exactly how these mechs are going to be implemented": The recent info post by Paul is nice to see what direction they are going in, but still has no concrete details because there aren't concrete details yet. I sprang for Phoenix without hesitation, because I knew what I'd be getting (easy to figure it out via Sarna). This, though? You're buying in at a very high cost to a product that is not yet designed, set in a game that doesn't exist yet (CW, etc).

I'm not against the pack, nor do I think it's unreasonably expensive (well, maybe a little, the Phoenix Pack was more reasonable at $20/mech instead of $30), but that's a huge investment in a whole freaking lot of variables.

The gold mechs, though... I still can't get past that. *twitch*

Most of us live there now - it seems to be just PGI back on the mainland.

Some guys pay for dominatrix services so this is probably the same concept.

in a society where something as dumb as 50 shades of gray is a huge bestseller, yeah, you could see where there would be nutters willing to blow 500 bucks to be a bigger target.
