They tried for over a year.

They failed.

What makes you believe they are able to fix srms in the first place?

They worked at some point, so they could just rollback things until they find the problems. But you know if you bang enough heads at a reinforced concrete wall for a enough time, it's bound to crack... eventually.

They never really worked.

In closed and early open beta, they simply were artificially overpowered, to balance out their tendency to not register.

Which basically turned them into Thors hammer, if the whole salvo registered.

I don't know. I might be misremembering but they registered ok for me before. I don't remember shooting point blank and nothing happening. I'd probably say it was one of the multiple HSR 'fixes' that broke them.

Fixing SRMs is super easy.

1) make them work exactly like streaks, because streaks work fine and have no hit registration issues.
2) unlike streaks, give each missile a chance to completely miss the target
3) equipping artemis would decrease the chance for a missile to miss

That would actually make SRMs feel like a missile weapon instead of the autistic little brother of the LB10X.

After reading the most recent Command Chair post...I don't even know if they are trying with SRMs anymore. They are keeping the SSRM6 at 2.5 damage, and keeping all the SRMs at 2, it seems. Very strange, since they even have the same amount of ammo. Although, they apparently have guidance, on top of a higher payload. But, balance isn't important.

This system always seemed wrong to me. SRMs and streaks have always had the same damage values. I assume they bumped streaks because people complained about them not all landing center torso anymore. So to quell the rage they buffed em. Streaks were busted before the spread change and were still effective after. Sure you might need to use lasers and auto cannons more effectively to take down that light, but that just promotes better skill. It seems like better skill is a fairly uniform topic of agreement amongst players. Unfortunately the damage boost leaves SRMs at a further disadvantage to streaks and LRMs probably contributing to some of the lrm spam you see in some matches. Why a weapon as disadvantaged as SRMs (short range, wide spread, and inconsistent damage due to hit registration) is just ignored, boggles the mind.

@ChapDude that's an example of something likely just has to be good enough for a while so we can focus completely on CW

It's completely unacceptable to disregard both GAME BALANCE and HIT REGISTRATION.

Also, let's try to consolidate things a little. We have another SRM thread around here as well.
