As a newcomer to the Battletech universe, I have to say I'm very pleased that as of my typing this the split is so amazingly even, 40.36% to 40.78%, with that remaining 18.85% not really being high enough to tip the balance too far into one-sidedness even if every single one of the "depends" players choose Clan.

My initial reaction to the Clans, as a newcomer, was "ick!" for their general outlook and "OP!" from a gameplay POV. It seems other, more experienced people have been discussing the balance issues inherent in bringing the Clans in for a while now, personally I was worried that since they are in virtually everyone's opinion more technologically advanced with a decided edge in combat, that a majority would flock to them given said advantages. I'm very glad to see this looks to be not so, at least with the more dedicated/early interested community. I fully expect the new generation of ADD addled kids to roll Clan, then we shall see if faster reflexes or superior tactical thinking will win the day. :D

From my vantage point, I find all the elements of ComStar lore far more fascinating than that of the Clans, I wonder if we will ever get the ability to fight for them, ComGuard vs. Clan or Word of Blake, if the game timeline gets that far/decides to speed things up.

I honestly only ever had sympathy for the Warden Clan's that originally intended to guide the Inner Sphere and was never much for the idea of slavery and genocide. I thought the idea of the Clan's themselves were cool, but looking at it 15 years older now I have to say I think that Comstar and the Resurrected Star League are certainly more in the right than the rest of them. It's a tough call. I started out as a Snow Raven in Netmech DOS years and years ago, and in Battletech I always played Federated Suns. I've settled in with a good I.S. Unit and I may stay there. If I want the new technology i'll simply pry it from the cold dead hands of Clansmen.

There is a lot to be said for Mechwarriors who stayed behind and didn't go with Kerensky. (Units like the ELH.) I also felt a lot of sympathy for Clan Wolverine/Minnesota Tribe.

This has probably been mentioned by another player somewhere along the line but regardless, this is my input. I will most likely change to Clan side of things, assuming that the Clans are represented in the game as closely as possible to the canon / lore / whatever. With that in mind, some things I would love to look for as a Clan player would be the ability to challenge other Clans, or even other members of my own Clan, to Trials of Possession (and presumably Position as well) and things of that note. Clanners don't fight the IS exclusively as a rule; they fight anyone that has something they want. This is part of the way of the Clans, and to me that is an important part of being a player of the Clans.

Then there's the part of me that wants to stay IS because of some pretty cool stuff that the IS will eventually develop as a means to combat the Clans, which in turn only leaves me wanting to stay Mercenary in order to attempt to take full avantage of all sides at some point. And then in turn I only want to make a "character" for each faction or soemthing along those lines so that I can partake in everything that my greedy little heart desires. Choices, choices!! Grrr!!

Considering that they will be balanced, unlike the Clans during the initial invasion in the storyline, it won't exactly be some great achievement to defeat the Clans in MWO. Most likely, you'll have numbers in your favour...and, since Clan armor is no more effective at soaking damage than IS armor, you will probably end up with a slight advantage in the durability of your force, if anything, since higher numbers will allow you to get behind the Clan mechs and hit their rear armor more easily.

I agree, this method makes total sense if you move past the initial invasion and is completely accounted for in BT canon. Where most IS use the traditional organization of lances, the clans developed the point/star organization where a star of 5 clan mechs is usually a fair match for two lances, 8 mechs, of IS of similar class. So a conceivably fair match would be any number of stars vs double its number of lances

Like others it depends on whether IS can access/salvage mechs (Vulture/Summoner)....

I also would love to see some way for IS players to be able to get salvaged clan tech, as this was a critical factor in the development of IS faction's units and mechs during and after the clan invasions. Maybe by having some kind of cost above what it would cost a clan pilot to purchase? Just a shot in the dark idea.

I am MechWarrior Rejarial of Clan Wolf. I was bred a Wolf, I will fight for my trothkin, and I shall die for them. I will die at the controls of my battlemech and if I am honorable enough, my gifttake shall be added into the genetics repository.

OOC: um yes.

Considering I already command 60 future Clan Wolf pilots, I think the path I will be taking is quite clear.

Victor Ian Steiner-Davion had a Dire-wolf. If I can get access to one I'd stay with the house. I piloted the Dire-wold(also known as the daishi) most of my Mech warrior 4 career!

If clan tech can be salvaged, I will be staying with house Kurita, otherwise I might be on the fence.

I've never really liked the looks of the Clan mechs. I don't think the artists were as good as those that drew many of the originals... especially the Unseens.

The clans will arrive next year, 3050, possibly final quarter of 3049 IE this year. They seem to be holding true to the timeline and passage of time.

Well if the timeline has anything to say about it, you will be kicked around like toddlers in a meth lab and then absorbed by Ghost bear... So no, you're going to join them whether you like it or not :).

Yeah I like the weakest military of all the successor states too. Throwing dozens of assault mechs into two lances of medium mechs and still loosing is pretty fun!

Gotta say I will stick with the IS. I'm a merc through and through. Besides, the clans are the biggest sticks in the deepest smelliest mud. They don't like drinking, they don't like parties... hell they don't like contractions. May as well join a convent as join the clans. :)

Can't I just play a Dragooner? It's technically a Clanner!

I'd probably keep two characters, switch between them constantly to see what I liked, and make a decision based off of that.
