I think this game is pretty well balanced right now. Almost every playstyle is viable, to be honest.

so you ok with missiles hitting and not doing any damage ?
Around 95% of people on the forum agree with that.
I'll do some search fu but there was a post from PGI saying SRM ARE BROKEN.
So they made a poll and let ppl to choose between A: increase dmg and delay the fix longer or B: wait for the FIx and speed it up a bit.
almost everyone voted A so PGI took it to the letter.

Well, had they mentioned it would take over a year, people may have voted differently...or maybe they did and I just missed it.

People just bumped to the MOAR dmg and got happy with, even when they warned about be a bit long delay (meh they said already long just compare with their soon standards )
I know the feeling and suffering of field Srm too, because i had bad experiences in the long run like Slam 20 Srm on an inmovil Stalker at 50m and do 0 dmg, or just find they deal no dmg een when game says they hit their target..

They are armor strip weapons!! not crit seekers!! and if any of you say that they are ok, you definitly didnt use them a year ago, when they were the wpn of choice for skirmishers (medium mechs) and assaults (brawlers).
They are terrible! they are the most unusable weapon system in the game. Make a count of the enemys using it!! its one to none in drops!!

Moved.
Care to explain how hit reg issues are gameplay balance and not a bug?

Edit: Oh, they don't use HSR (host state rewind), so even when it looks like you hit they really missed...
Ya, that matches up with what I've seen, wish people would put this stuff in their posts though, instead of assuming everyone was on the same page (that SRM's need a buff/fix).

The vote was just whether they should raise the damage now or not. I don't remember anythnig about the fix taking longer due to it.

There was 2 options.
a: keep them as they are until we fix them.
b: raise it's dmg temporary to to 2.0 per missile (warning heavier Mechs may suffer bigger dmg punishment due this) and delay a bit longer the fix.
I may be a bit off but as you said that's what i seem to remember i must be wrong too. Also since the Missile dmg buff ppl shut up about them for a long period so maybe PGI relaxed about it even more.

I don't have any issue with SRM other than the missiles not guiding when a Narc beacon is attached.
SRMs should always be guided. It would be correct lorewise and per definition since they are missiles. Some kind of softlock mechanism should work since they shouldnt be affected by ecm. With a weak version of streak guidance, with misses ofcourse. SRMs as they are now = MRM realistically.
