why does it look like they built it out of legos that had circuit boards drawn on them?

One could go on and on about the fails of this map, but why waste the time.

To your point about the size of moons, yes their are larger moons and those have atmospheres, The reason for this is that size is what determines gravity. Our moon is 1/4 our size and has 1/6 our gravity. It's apmosphere is 1,000,000 molucules per cubic centimeter. PGI says this map has 25,000-75,000 atoms per cubic centimeter. I think they meant molucules. So this map has a atmosphere far thinner then the moon. The larger moons in our solar system have atmospheres because they are larger, have higher gravity, hence a atmosphere.

And as for sound traveling through Mar's atmosphere. Sound needs a medium to travel through. Density of the material effects how far the sound will travel; gas-liquid-solid. May not travel as far as it would on Earth but would still travel far.

The Atmosphere can be blown away by the sunin the system depending on the solar wind's strength andthe moon's magnetosphere. If it doesn't have a molten core, even moons the size of planets can lose their atmosphere. The heat will also depend on the distance to the sun. Just being a moon doesn't make the temperature specific, there are a lot of variables.

I just got a nasty dose of motion sickness off this map. Severe disorientation and a headache. Not nice ;)

I like the map. It reminds me of a lot of places in the story for mechwarrior 3

Gonna start with the positive...
>Love the multiple levels, nothing like looking at the map being surrounded by red arrows, and they're all above or below you.
any many places smaller mechs can run under that larger ones can't.
>Love the relative quietness of the map, no longer get a headache from firing off multiple ACs at once.
>Like the layout, have to go a Looooooong way and probably through a lot of enemy mechs to base cap on assault.

Damn that isn't a lot
Now the Bad
>Hate the multiple levels, because I run a lot of non-JJ mechs, and falling sucks
>Hate the quietness of the map, I use the charge sound more than the little light for shooting Gauss, and the SFX is almost non-existent on this map, and the little light is too small, Another pitfall of the low SFX is if you busy paying attention to t targeting and firing, you can lose track of when you're getting hit, till the 'puter voice says you've been critted.
>Non-Existent cockpit shake when you're hit by anything, combined with no sfx when you're hit, can make for a rather confusing match.
>There is No color on this map, getting tired of the grey scale {Scrap}, CIty Map and it's brown scale, City Noght with it's choice of green or grey scale to see, Frozen City Day with it's choice of snow blind or grey scale... please, you really need to start getting more imaginative with maps.

Don't really care for the argument about the physics of the map, so I'm not going to comment further on that aspect.

I think the map colour stuff is there to try and make the players use night/heat vision. Making the maps diffcult to look at is not the right way to go about it, but i can understand why, there would be no point in the night/heat vision without this.

I will not let my distaste for PGI's business practices cloud or fog my vision. This map rocks, we need more like it and less like the originals, keep up the good work.

Sound is great, Buildings look outworldly and my god what a nice looking sky. King of the hill!! or tunnel....

I think they did an outstanding job on the map. The sounds in particular are amazing, and the map design is fantastic. I thought they couldn't do a better job than they did on Crimson Straights, but HPG just might be better.

Love the sounds, the map is meh.

You guys at PGI need to create a new system to handle & create maps. Before 2016 at best.

But thanks anyways.

Just gonna toss some ideas out there.

How bout a cityscape with some color, in the buildings not all the same color through out the map, maybe put some big Video billboards running adds that throw some movement in the background, to throw off people who are always in zoom.

Maybe a map in a huge mech factory complex with lots of movement form the automated factory bots and lots of "Non-Combatant" mechs in the process of assembly that we can hide among.

I know this won has been tossed around in the forums too, maybe a bombed out cityscape, lots of rubble piles, fires, impact and explosion craters, skeletal remains of buildings, big and small. Maybe even some we can walk into.

As for game modes, read in the developer notes that you were looking at re-working assault, how about instead of capping a base, you actually have to destroy the command structure, make it difficult for just one mech to do before they defense returns and splatters him on the landscape. Like a mobile base vehicle, a comms unit, maybe even a drop ship or two.

Just stuff like that,

They have a floating staff of 40-50 employees, and over a full third of them work on just maps...they can come up with better than this with what they have. This also came from reading the developer notes.

Finally there is the gravity. Moons with little to no atmosphere are smaller moons. With not enough gravitational hold to keep an atmosphere.

I've only used it twice, but I like the hell out of this map. Give them time to work out the low-g and low-atmo effects. Don't think you know it all about what the temp should be - the universe produces variations you can't begin to comprehend from our present little corner. I can think of many ways their present temp could be viable and yet I know I'll never think of an infinite number of others. So give them time to think up good reasoning and background for the temp as it is or to change it.

Both fights I was in on this map were spectacular - because of the map.

I love it when video game physics turn into complex debates on Einstein's theories and Hawkings thesis.

It's a video game about giant stompy robots set a thousand years in the future involving intergalactic space travel, helmets that relay human motion to said stompy robots, test tube genetically engineered warrior societies, and space jets that fight in outer space......

It's science-FICTION, not only that, it's science-FICTION based on what was considered science-FICTION 30 years ago.....

Seriously guys, real world and modern technology is not a basis for ANYthing you find in this game. Not to mention not a single fight you participate on is earth. Not one. Every match is set on a distant far away planet in a completely different galaxy. We have absolutely no idea how a gun would operate 5 billion miles away. Until Hawking reads over every piece of lore and canon material, walks into the forums, and gives a detailed analysis of how all of this would work on earth, I'll just stick with my "it's a video game so stop over thinking it" mentality.

And no, throwing out Hawking (or any other scientific THEORIES) ideas does not count. Just because you minored in astronomy or even work as some sort of astro physicist doesn't mean you right. Come on guys, enjoy it for what it is. A fictional piece of work for entertainment purposes only. Attempting to recreate any stunts seen in this video game could result in severe injury or death. So please, for the love of baby jesus, don't attempt to travel to another galaxy and participate in all-out warfare in giant stompy robots because you saw it in a video game.

EDIT: Typos

"maybe we're further from the closest star than our moon so it's colder in the light."

If we're further away from the "sun" then the HPG moon would receive less heat. That would explain why we're clearly on the light side of whatever HPG is yet it's cold.

"Though if there was little or no atmosphere our heatsinks wouldn't work at all."

http://lmgtfy.com/

Scroll up and read some other posts for explanations of why they wouldn't work.

You don't seem to understand what I was guessing about ...

I was NOT guessing about the physics. Physically, when operating in an airless low temperature environment, primary heat losses will be through conduction with whatever surfaces you are in contact with and through radiative losses. By the way, heat sinks will still function in a vacuum ... they will simply have a much reduced efficiency since the primary heat dissipation process will be radiative loss rather than conduction/convection.

My guess had to do with coming up with a pseudo explanation for why the environmental temperature on the HPG map was specified as -10C for a dark apparently low atmosphere environment ... and my guess as to the reason, based on known physics, is just as reliable as your guesses to the reason in terms of the planet being father from its primary and thus receiving less radiative heat load/m2 and thus being cooler. Any of these explanations or "guesses" are consistent with physical reality but that doesn't mean any of them are the reasons why the developer chose to assign a value of -10C.

sure guys... PGI creates one of the best maps so far, and YOU come up with science omfg... if it was all about science, most of the greatest franchises wouldn´t even exist :(

the sound is bad.. very bad..
THey could have made ANY sounds in the world for the weapons to simulate space, and imo its an utter fail..
Video games arent about realism for the most part, its about cool..
Nothing cool about the weapon fire sounds on hpg.

second,, really a failed opportunity.. the lighting on the map blows.. Id settle for a stationary bright light source, but the map woulda coulda shined with a bright light source that rotates around the moon. Say a 30 minute cycle. Start of drop is random time. So hypothetically could go from full dark to full light on a 15 minute match..

I dont mind the map.. i actually like the layout from what ive seen.. I LIKE the ramps.. I like not having to deal with the bizzarro terrain you find on many maps to gain elevation. <canyon>
Havent explored , but id imagine the multi level is usefull.. I HOPE ,, like crimson.

i like the map.. its just primarily the sound. its so bad.

really .. amazing.? the sounds are not amazing.. They are horrific.. I enjoy the map ALOT, but the sounds are bad bad bad..
ac5, garbage, lrm 5 garbage. its just bad.
you want to hear good sounds, good music etc.. play warframe . audio is very middle of the road for this game.. it is.
