My question is does he really believe what he's posting now or is it just to save face, which btw is long past saving.

He should totally join. He seems to share a lot of the save views.

Cha ching! Wow so anyone who thinks you make no sense must be a Goon. Whatever helps you sleep at night. I'm no Goon and the fact that you like PGI make me agree with Goons is remarkable.

I am just amazed that people are trying so hard to convince me that what MWO needs is a more comprehensive marketing campaign.

And I'm amazed that people cry about CW and Clans and we are yet to get basic functionality that games should have ages ago XD

So you're going to go the route of the thirteen year old who justifies no one showing up to his birthday party by saying, "Well I didn't need all those extra guests to feed anyway!"

There are a lot of games out there competing for the attention of gamers. MWO benefited and continues to benefit from a pre-built player base thanks to the Intellectual Property. However, as players burn out, get bored, or just move on to bigger and shinier things, PGI needs to replace those players with new ones. If you do not market your game, you cannot maintain your player numbers and the population begins to shrink. Since PGI has stopped crowing about player accounts smashing through previous records, and forum account creation slowing over time, we can only surmise that it's already happening.

I'm quite sure that you're beyond convincing for anything, since you're now openly just anti-goon and for all intents and purposes just trolling the thread out of spite.

As for your rationale that CW should be as immersive as your friends list or mech bay, the only way CW will actually add to the gameplay experience is if it draws in players to use it. CW will depend on participation and this concept called, "Buy-in" from the player base. If it's not an immersive experience, people won't care and the game will die.

If your friends list isn't immersive, no one cares. Almost everyone, except those who think that PGI is terrible and want to lower the bar preemptively, expects PGI to make the effort to make CW an immersive experience. If they say the word or not. The devs have described, repeatedly, an experience that is immersive to the players. It's what they've promised, and it is what the player base justifiably expects.

I'm genuinely fascinated that this thread has delivered one guy that is so determined that this is a bad idea that he can't stop posting. I mean, there's been people that have said "I don't think this would work" and gone on their way, but xhrit is s convinced that this is a terrible, unworkable idea that he's constructed and demolished enough strawmen that it's like a training montage from a kung fu movie or something.

What mint_frog has suggested is a decent idea that could have made the announcement of a key event in the Battletech timeline much more than just "HEY, BUY OUR STUFF". Given that Mechwarrior has a niche audience and will probably ALWAYS have a niche audience, appealing to the nostalgia of the people most likely to hurl money at it is a good idea. Sitting with your arms folded and going "nuh-uh" in the face of a decent idea is just pointless.

I've spent too much money on this game and will not do so any longer.

What good is your friends list? Your friends list is not meant to be immersive, is it? What about the mech bay? Immersive would be walking around in first person mode on foot in your mech bay while you watch your tech crew repair your mechs in real time. Clearly the mech bay was not designed for immersion.

There is a line between immersion and fun.

Mech Warfare was designed to provide immersion, like you are actually in the cockpit piloting a mech.
Role Warfare was designed to provide balanced gameplay options.
Information Warfare was designed to provide incentives for teamwork.
Community Warfare was designed to to provide longevity and replay value.

Those are the four pillars of MWO's design principals, according to the development video that was posted earlier in this thread. You could say Community Warfare was designed to provide immersion, and Information warfare was also designed to provide immersion, and Role warfare was designed to provide immersion too; you could say that everything in every game was specifically designed to provide more immersion... but you would be wrong.

CW is for longevity and replay value? Here I thought it was supposed to add context to why we're fighting in Mechs to begin with. It's supposed to provide a universe to contextualize the entire game in. So if that's not designed to be immersive, is that good enough for you? Is the Mech bay, which isn't designed to be explored, good enough for you because it wasn't designed that way to begin with? If so, then those are some low standards you have. I can tell you they're not good enough for me, and I don't think I'm alone in that sentiment.

Agreed.

A huge marketing opportunity was missed by not teasing out artwork, or even better, like you suggested something as Epic as devs dropping in in the actual mechs.

cheers.

Still possible - 4 man dev premades in full clan gear showing up randomly for the first week.
