Guys, you're forgetting the most important thing about xhrit's Valve comparison:

They weren't asking for money until after the game was out, thus via this slimmest of teeeeeeny slivers of pedantic word-twisting margin he's totally 100% wrong.

What? Next you'll be able to prove PGI asked for money before the game was released.

Spoiler

Brilliant observation, Nekki. And if you ignore the fact that Valve actually did accept cash store transactions during their betas, you are 100% totally right.

Did EVERY game company do that? If not you're still wrong. You've proven you can work Google, so get to Googling EVERY game company to provide how EVERY one of them acts just like PGI. Otherwise no proof. So stop trying to change the subject. Where is the proof that EVERY game company does all the things I listed.
Again nothing short of evidence of ALL of the actions I listed from EVERY single company that has ever made a video game or else you are wrong.

I think instead of doing that, I am going to go play MWO. I'd ask if you want to join me, but since you don't actually play the game, have fun complaining about it on the forums instead.

Umm if anyone's complaining here it's you. I get it, you painted yourself into a corner with your pendantry and now you're trying to get out with some self esteem intact. Too late, you had opportunities to leave earlier and you wanted to keep digging. It took you a while to wise up, good to see that the lessons finally paid off. Next time when people advise you to stop digging, quit then and save the trouble. Besides I doubt you're going anywhere. :)

So this is what happens when I'm away for long enough. Wow. Not the game.

In essence that means that everybody who plays has earned him or herself the right to complain. That's fine with me. And it should work for most of the people around here.

Or are you just saying we should **** and play? Would be funny. You saying we should stop arguing about MWO, yet you started arguing about us arguing about MWO. It's the worst case of "complaining on the internet" I'm afraid. Chance of healing is slim lol. :)

I do not recall ever telling anyone to stop arguing. That is not my style. I simply stated my intent to stop contributing to the arguments presented in this thread by RG Notch.

I made my point. PGI is on par with Valve, the industry leader in game development studios... at least in terms of business practices, if not product quality.

To be honest I don't really get that. Yes, they do not deliver Half Life 3. On the other hand they did never officially announce it. They're also (probably) not working on it, are not offering a beta test and haven't launched a product, obviously.

The products they did deliver were polished and very enjoyable games that more or less lived up to the promise. These games are still kinda worshipes which is the reason why everyone is hoping for Episode 3 or Half Life 3 in the first place.

So yeah...don't really get it.

Anyway...45mins to go where I live, I wish you all a happy new year.

Not Half Life 3 - Half Life 2, Episode 3. Valve said it would be out in 2007.

Mhm...I kinda missed that. ^^ Well, like I said somehwere before: At least Valve proved that they can deliver quality products. PGI tried and - in some key aspects - failed to make it good or failed to deliver. They have yet to deliver their first quality product...

I've read the whole thread so far, was kinda interesting. I see points in mintfrogs OP as well as in xhrit opposing stance.
OK the horse has left the barn - but I think there might be something coming up along the lines of the OP besides the Clan-packs already released. I think they are very eager to generate some buzz for the clans, once they are actually arriving. Such PR-buzz is normally for free but it helps when devs would show up on the battlefield.
The following 10 pages were lost in details or off-topic.
I see a great sense of disappointment in both contendors, mintfrog and xhit. They just have totally different ways of dealing with this disappointment. The hustle was interesting to read especially from a psychologic point of view. A small difference on details made them worlds apart after just a view more posts. What they have in common is their disappointment and fading patience for their beloved MW:O. They might actually be closer to one another than they might ever think.
When it comes to "lost oppotunities" from PGI I tend to see the big picture:
Microsoft still holds the license for MW.O and they are just about to release a new generation of homeconsoles. PR at this time would be vastly in vein, especially when targeting new players. They already acquired all the die-hard BT fans.
This game's PR-engine didn't even start I hope. The can do it whenever they want and whenever the time is right (CW - UI.2.00). They will hopefully release on Steam and get lots of new players once they have CW in place. They just have to say "Go!" for the big audience. Maybe they are not allowed by MS license agreement to run serious PR. Maybe MS wants to protect their major title "Titanfall" which could be accused to target the same demographic. (No hate here - just big stompy robots alike)
It's all about the money.
Maybe development is so slow because the parallel-develop MW:O for the Xbox One? They wouldn't tell us anyhow - just imagine the following forumrage.
I am just looking for a proper explanation for the slow development progress and the missed opportunities all the way?
After all they have been quite creative with their sales so why not with the clans?

But your point was EVERY game company did this stuff. So you can't decide you won and are leaving victorious. You can't keep moving the goal posts and then hit one and call it a game. You can retire from the field but you can't do so claiming you won. So if you're admitting I am right then feel free to stop proving me right by responding.

It's a shame that PGI has basically bungled the whole time line idea, but it was ambitious to start and they stopped caring about story and concentrated on short term cash flow.

Fun Rule: If you petulantly announce that you're leaving a thread, mocking those who stay to discuss the topic, you don't get to come back and continue with your nonsense.

When you play the "I'm taking my ball and going home" card, you're done.

But when there is a reason for someone to come back and repeat or clarify things another person has missed or does not understand, mocking that returned person shows that the user is not really interested in the topics discussion, but rather in keeping up a silly fight for the fights sake and honestly, I don't think that paints you as the better person.

But oh well, I kinda guessed where this discussion had gone to when you mentioned "balls". Who's got the bigger eh? :D

If we've learned anything from the multiple Mod interventions, and pages after pages of derailing, it's that Xhrit is never going to leave and never going to stop. Therefore, it's perfectly appropriate to point out how silly it is for him to declare that he's going anywhere. He's not interested in talking about the OP, or really anything concerning the topic. He's here to get the thread locked.

Back on topic: My OP is still doable, though a lot of the news-grabbing elements are lost.

The question you should really be asking... is it worth doing that PR for a minimally viable product?

My question is if devs started dropping in clan mechs tomorrow, would that make you change your reviews of MWO to something higher then 3/10?

Devs should totally be running events instead of fleshing out features.
