They should buy the rights from HG for the Marauder. The might not make much money on it in the end but it would let us have the mech so many really want.
Last I checked it seemed that Harmony Gold most likely has production rights to the show and merchandising rights, plus some trademarks, which makes no sense. However I'm not certain one could actually buy the rights to any design from them as neither of the above would grant them any real ownership. Of course Macross was always the most popular of the series they acquired even in Japan where it's basically the only existing of the three now and they fully understand that.

HA. Like HG would sell away their one source of income.
Considering they're into real estate Macross is hardly their
one source of income. However I have a feeling there isn't very much they can really do with Macross beyond toys and series rereleases and if that's the case I would be surprised if they wouldn't consider licensing if it were an option.
Again, not convinced it even is though and without spending a ton of money it's hard to be sure. Either way I don't see any logic in anyone who cares to throw down that money and I highly doubt Topps or Microsoft even keeps Battletech/Mechwarrior on the radar beyond licensing.
Oh the fun of not actually owning things.
