hello...

i thought alot about LRM´s, what they did in BTTT (yes yes, this not TT, and i am not aiming at "make mwo more true to TT" here)

my personal idea of how they should function is this:

they should focus more on the direct fire role, as they are basically not meant to be an artillery system, but a direct fire weapon. So what i mean is basically, seperating indirect- and direct fire a bit more

Direct Fire:
i´d get rid of the lock system per default and just let them be guided by the crosshair, so the user has to keep the crosshair on the target while the LRM´s are on their way. . this method couldn´t be countered by ecm, because it´s a visual guidance, ECM would only block the Artemis System, thus the "to hit bonus" Artemis provides... yes, it would make LRM´s more difficult to use, but let´s be honest, with a bit of practice it´d still be a piece of cake

Indirect Fire:
to bring in some "rolewarfare" into this, INDIRECT fire could only be used if a target is NARCed, that would give NARC (and the stock layout of a RVN 3L) a whole new purpose...(NARC´s duration should be buffed a good ammount for this ) this would use the current lock mechanics...
as for what ECM does within this mechanic, i am not so sure... block it entirely? block the other bonuses of NARC? delay the lock on in indirect fire? i guess there are more aspects to this...

let me say it clearly: this is not a suggestion i make as a "do it or you´ll lose another ranting customer" nor is this meant to be " LRM are OP" ... it´s just my understanding of how LRM´s should work ...

merry x-mas all

simplest change would simply be to have LRMS after lock be able to be fired were the pilot is looking - look up to achieve a high/steep trajectory, look down or straight ahead to dumbfire. only change needed would be to increase lock-on times after aquiring slightly so pilots would have to time lock > aim > fire > re-maintain lock via reticule position return.

Maybe.

I like the idea of tying Artemis to lock-on, with ECM then defeating that, and Lock on for both LRMs and SRMs. So they can still fire without lock too.

A much simpler system:

1- Disable missile warning message. It should only be enabled if the mech has an AMS installed.

2- Change 'Chain Fire' mechanics for LRMs: If you 'chain fire' the LRMs they still ALL fire at once except that the launcher fires them directly ahead (missiles do not arc upwards).

3- Change 'open missile bay doors' key into a toggle for Fire Modes: Sensor Guided (default, current system) and Laser Guided. Laser Guided fire mode works like this:

- Enemy mech gets TAG'd.
- You target that mech.
- You switch to Laser Guidance
- Fire LRMs. There is no missile-lock wait time.
- Target mech does NOT get missile warning message.
- LRMs will home in on target only as long as it has a TAG on it and as long as the mech that fired the LRMs keeps it targeted.

There you have sensor-based (radar homing basically) missiles that give out a warning...and laser guided that do not. An excellent way to have dedicated scouts be key in calling down LRM fire by painting targets.
