Instead of Tag requiring an energy hardpoint, NARC requiring a missile hardpoint and finally the AMS requiring an AMS hardpoint, what if instead they all required a "utility hardpoint?"

'Mechs would be re-balanced with utility hardpoints and can equip the following:

Tag
NARC
AMS

Possible addition of the Flamer as well?

Thoughts/Opinions?

Maybe if they add a few hardpoints like this just for electronics/misc tools/etc... Maybe. Not sure how that will go though.

I've heard a idea similar to this before in my own topic It's not necessarily bad idea. I can find some pros and cons of what you suggested

I'll start off by saying the flamer weapon does damage and thus, can be fully considered an energy weapon. It seems doubtful to me that all utility devices can be put in one category considering what makes some 'mech variants are unique is because of their ability to equip two AMS rather than one.

If a 'mech had two or more Utility slots that would make a lot of 'mechs able to have several AMS. This would interfere with some builds such as:
- Atlas 7-K
- Stalker 5S
- Locust 3M

However, if a 'mech had a special slot for TAG and/or NARC instead of a having to use weapon slot, then it would enable for more damaging weapons that wouldn't have to be sacrificed. This way it can be applied to every 'Mech. (This will also interfere with 'mech variants somewhat but can be seen to be more practical.)

I'd rather just have separate hardpoints for those. TAG and NARC should / could be setup as AMS and ECM are currently, with their own unique hardpoints.

I'd rather it stay how it is. Right now it adds a trade-off to equipping this stuff. You give up a weapon slot for them. That's hwo it's supposed to be

While this can affect usability of mechs and increase role warfare, we still must wait. Hopefully then in competitive gameplay, not all mechs will just be overshadowed by the best. So stuff like Commandoes/Locusts, Kintaros, Hunchies, Dragons, Awesomes, etc can have some use at least.

Edit: @Sandpit We'll see how this could be implemented, because otherwise, many variants and stuff are just to strong over other variants. And maybe this can increase variety. But as of now, yeah probably don't change customization until CW/UI 2.0/Clans etc.
