I may have to try this. My founder's mech is a Cat, and it's been sitting and collecting dust due to all of the LRM changes. This looks like it could give a nice change, without losing the LRMs. I dunno, there's a part of me that wants to keep my mechs stock-esque - a Cat without LRMs (K2 excepted, where's it's PPCs) just isn't a Cat to me.

Just get the Jager-A. You are going to need it anyway to elite your Jagers. Also get the target decay module if you don't own it.

btw. what is this assault mech slot you are talking about?
also it's not wasting upping your 65 ton catapult to 85 ton stalker you get more firepower, heatsinks (= firepower) and double your amount of missiles.

for the OP, yes, recommend you getting the Jager-A so you can unlock the 2x Elite bonuses (in case you didn't already know, it gives you 2x the bonus on your Basic pilot skill tree once you unlock all the Elite level skills. But to be able to unlock Elite level skills, you need to completely unlock Basic skills for 3 variants of that chassis)

Currently I'm grinding the Jager-A's Elite level, 'cause I already got the DD & Firebrand. The Firebrand is lovely for grinding C-bills.

Also, the LRM boat I'm currently running is the Stalker-5M, sometimes with 5 LRM5's, someimtes with 2xLRM10 3xLRM5, but always with Artemis & a Tag, a whole center & side torso of ammo w/ CASE on the side, then the fastest engine I can fit.
(i sometimes whittle down the leg armor to 40-55, to make tonnage for an AMS, but shhhh, don't tell the pro's)

The LRM5's are great for salvo after salvo on group fire, very little heat, and you can also switch to chain-fire when you don't notice any AMS-carrying mechs left for extra annoyance. The one with 2xLRM10 is just more damage per salvo, good when you don't get people out in the open for long at a time.

Minor detail: They don't have the highest DPS. The other launchers (15/10) make up a ton.

That said, bigger is better for salvo size, and even with the faster refire of the other launchers, if you can fit 2x20 (and have the ports) it's definitely a great bet to crack AMS. AMS makes that fast refire on the other launchers moot entirely.

PS: Grouping also figures in, so sometimes it's also better to do 15-5 instead of 1x 20, etc. Very 'mech/missile port dependant.

So sound advice, just slightly off in the details.

You are right, but it's also (sadly) not a very viable one.

I'd feel like there was room for both if ultimately I couldn't pop them like baloons everytime from a skirmisher, but that's the way it plays out - it's hard to suggest a style when you can so throughly trounce it with another style.

This isn't bragging or anything to do with skill - I encourage everyone here to take the test, and try a skirmisher then get into a duel with an LRM boat. You will win every single time if you keep moving and keep tagging.

other subtleties of armour config and ammo I leave to you ( no artemus is all ill say )
