Implies an emergency of some sort. How else should they have managed it? Have another project take a hit in resourcing and delay something else? From the tone that of the posts regarding Hitbox changes it doesn't sound like a huge priority for them. More like they think they can squeeze it in while working on other bigger things.
+1 to this. It was not described as a vacation. Something came up, it happens. Working in a creative field, it happens all the time. People get sick, or hurt, or die. Cars break down, or get wrecked, houses flood, or catch on fire. Anything could have happened in the life of the person who has been assigned the task of cleaning up the hit boxes. When that happens, you judge the urgency of the completion of that task against the length of the potential delay against the amount of time it is going to take to ramp someone new up on the same task. Throwing a new person on the task might have doubled the amount of time left, and still might not have made the deadline for the previous patch.
This is a balancing and fine tuning issue. It's definitely not something that someone should have been pulled off of their normal tasks to rush out. Thanks to Paul for the clear communication, and for continuing work on this balancing issue as best as possible while allowing his staff to deal with unexpected real issues in the real world.
