Try a -3D with 2 and 2 AC/5s. Awesome.

4x with 3AC/5s and one AC/2 is better

Yes, as it turns out I did seek out the advice of experienced players in a game that I am relatively new to.

Anyway, I've been running a CTF-1X with 2 PPC's and 3 MLas'. This is my first venture into heavies, and I'm used to having a lot more speed, so I'm getting used to the role still and leading my targets with the PPC's, but when I do hit it seems to work great. Thanks guys.

Don't forget that PPCs have an EMP effect, if you see an enemy DDC providing ECM cover, hitting him with PPCs will deactivate the ECM for few seconds, which can be quite useful.

The ER large is better than it in every way statistically except the PPC has 1 more damage and the big one is that damage is pinpoint and they don't have the option to spread it by twisting. Another bonus with that is you yourself can twist the instant you shoot unlike the large laser you have to keep on target. Also you can duck behind cover the second your PPC leaves on it's way to the target.

Right now the only Mech I have them on is my Catapult K2. I use 2xPPC 2xLL 18dbl heatsinks and ams.

I used the ERPPC for awhile but, stepping down to the normal PPC lets me get an extra shot off for every 2 shots of ERPPC. Plus I was able to bring up the medium pulse to large while having the same heat. ER PPC really does make you a long range only build with that much heat IMO.

Lately I've actually been letting people know in chat when I use PPC. "hey I have PPC watch and try to LRM that Atlas in a sec". Worst case scenario he's not allowed to just stand out in the open like he's invincible anymore.

First, if you are packing PPCs, JumpJets are pretty much mandatory if you want to do well. The exception being the Cicada 3M with just 2 PPCs and an ECM.

Second, as previously pointed out, the build used at a competitive level is typically 2 PPCs and 1 AC10, generally all fired together as an alpha. Use it as a "Pop-Tarter" (Jump sniper).

Good chassis for this build are the CTF-3D, VTR-DS (Other victors are OK but all weapons on arms) and HGN-733C.

Personally, I am also enjoying a QKD-4H with just 2 PPCs.

When using a PPC mech with jumpjets, if you need to get outside min range, run forwards then jumpjet and turn in the air - you will still be moving away from them but can shoot them as you fly backwards.

If you like medium, try the blackjack BJ-3
2PPC, 4light laser, STD 200, 1JJ

Ist a really fun medium-Long range sniper.
Of course you have to know how to jump shot (and jump turn) and even then a light will kill you 1:1 but thats why you are 100m beyond your line, notsinling out - about 500m away from enemy at best,so that MedLas dont do any real dmg :D

Did they change the damage on the LL or the PPC? People here keep saying it does one more damage than the LL. Last I checked, a LL did 8 and a PPC did 10.

Also the ERPPC has no minimum range, unless that's also changed.

Well, I've found for the most part that I should have gotten the CTF-3D for this type of fighting, but I've been doing 1 UAC/5 and 2 PPC's on my 1X, and it's been working reasonably well. It feels kind of...dirty though, it's hard to compare to the good honest work of brawling. It seems the standard for a 1X is an AC/20 Hunchy Senior build anyway, so I'll probably just give in and go with that till I get a mech with jumpjets. I've just always wanted to try new things and make them work, but if it doesn't have jumpjets then it is what it is =P. At least my faith in PPC's is restored.

I was using a 1-AC20 / 1-PPC Ctplt-K2 for awhile. It gave me 2 weapon groups... left click big guns, right click 3MLs. Lead the targets with the left, or aim straight at it with the right. Easy enough. The AC20 was slow enough that it alternated with the PPC well. Also... no worries on running out of ammo with my "big guns".

Though, I missed the close range, ERPPC was too hot/heavy... so I went to ERLL. The MAIN problem I had with the min range was that I was always trying to get close with the AC20... but not TOO close for PPC.
I think I'm gonna try something to fit the ERPPC, just haven't worked it out yet.

The pinpoint of the PPC is great.... though SUCKS when chasing lights. I'd take a LL sweep across rather than a hit or miss PPC. yes, i know... practice. In theory the PPC is better... but you have to make those shots count.
