I've been trying to work on the best improvements to my BJ-1, but nothing seems to really reach out and grab me. I want to increase the punch and speed, but not leave it with tissue thin armor and prone to overheats. So, I thought I would put it to the community. What builds do you make for the BJ-1?
Thanks and cheers!

Everyone is going to tell you to use the AC20/3 Medium Laser version. Which is fine, just about every BJ I see is set up like that.
I use mine a little different. This has been my BJ-1 setup since the BJ got released. The gauss gets some hate these days, but I can't argue with the success of this build for me.
Also, I used an XL210 because I had one. You could probably fit an XL225 for more speed but I just didn't want to pay for one. Sometimes I just like running what is fun, not what is best.

BJ-1 - I used this for awhile. This is more of an assist machine. use the regular mediums for ranged engagements and the Pulse for close range and machine guns when their armor is removed. Stick by your Heavies and Assaults to cover them from lights. In a straight light vs BJ fight you'll most likely lose.
BJ-1 - What I'm using currently. I sit back and assist where I can. I still sit by heavier mechs or other mediums and prevent flanks by enemy Lights and Mediums. Don't engage at close range if you can help it.
BJ-1 - This is more of a brawling build like the top one. But uses heavier weaponry and a smaller engine. Again remember that you're fairly squishy in comparison with other mediums and you don't have the speed to back it up so keep a keen awareness on the battlefield and do your best to choose your battles carefully.

I run two AC/2s and two Medium Lasers, with an XL225. Very simple. Not everybody likes AC/2s, but I do well with them.

2 ERLL, 2 MLs, 2 MGs. Not as boring as AC20 clones, and slighlty original, no one seems to shoot you when they realize your a BJ without an AC20 so I seem to last longer and get more damage.

It is with all due respect that I have to ask you to forget what you heard, let me see you work your back because it's a so south thing and they call it the chico snap.
AC20 in a blackjack has always been smalltime. Let's say you're just dying to get it going. I MEAN shit's popping off and you want to just give someone a little tickle two or three grid squares away. AC20 build means you get to pound sand while all the cool kids with two AC5s are getting hard in the yard. The only blackjack I run is the dc so I don't go in for all this jumpjet nonsense. As far as I'm concerned guns should be czech, bass should be boom'n, and mechs should stay on the ground.
This guy gets it.

2xAC/5? I had to downgrade the engine to fit everything I wanted.

Dual AC/5 works wonders on the BJ-1 (and 1X). Even does well with the stock 180 standard engine and single heatsinks! Just don't fire those MLs often.

I normally run with an ERPPC in one arm and a UAC5 + MedLas in the other, 235XL for max speed. Stay at range and use Adv Zoom. I respect the AC20 builds, but I hate getting into brawling range with BJs.

I am using this lately and liking it:

It does run a little hot, so I save the m lasers for alphas or just chainfire those when I am cooling down.
