Oh boy oh boy, I am excited for the new shadow hawk! Been hoping for something like this for a while, and I recently completed book 1 and 2 of the Gray Death Legion. I'm working on book 3 right now, and this mech looks great!

The Thunderbolt is a venerable battlemech chassis that has seen deployment across the Inner Sphere, chiefly thanks to its rugged design and multi-functionality. Phoenix, the personal battlemech of Liam Avery, is no exception. Built upon an Earthwerks TDR II Endo Steel Chassis, this heavy mech gains a few precious tons to help supplant its arsenal. While the weapons loadout may seem meager in comparison to that of a Thunderbolt 9S, Major Avery saw the wisdom in narrowing the infamously eclectic weapons mix of the chassis into a more finely honed setup.
The SureFire 444 Anti-Missile System, Zippo Flamers, TherHes Maxi SRM-6, Voelkers Machine Guns and Maxmillian C.A.S.E. have all been removed to make space for a second Defiance 1001 ER PPC, doubling the long-range firepower of the mech primarily at the expense of Phoenix's anti-infantry capabilities. Meanwhile the original trio of Diverse Optics Type 18 Medium Lasers have all been upgraded to Diverse Optics Type 20P Medium Pulse Lasers, giving the mech's close combat capabilities a significant upgrade.
These modifications, along with the retention of the standard Magna 260 Fusion Engine and 13 tons of Ryerson 150 Standard Armor, ensure that Phoenix is able to operate almost completely independent of supply lines for extended periods of time, as well as endure while under intense combat conditions. However, the all-energy arsenal also entails significant heat generation, which the Thunderbolt's 18 Double Heat Sinks struggle to dissipate, causing the battlemech to burn as brightly as its namesake on IR Scanners.
Phoenix's opponents have been known to close the distance with the mech, under fire from the ER PPCs the entire time, expecting to find her relatively defenseless at such ranges. However, the trio of medium pulse lasers have consistently proven them wrong, as the highly accurate lasers savage their armor. With its firepower exceeding that of an Awesome, and armor rivaling that found on a Stalker, the Phoenix packs a lot of mech into a 65 ton package, making it an excellent addition to the Robinson Rangers Brigade.

"Sir," he begins semi-formally, "Your military forces have been attacking and raiding along the Kuritan-FedCom border, I insist that you cease these hostilities before our Emperor is forced to take action."
Duke Aaron Sandoval, looking down at his desk, reading readouts displayed on panels embedded in the desk, glances up and flatly states, "I assure you junior Ambassador, we have no FedCom regulars active in Kuritan territory. Just where have you been attacked?"
The Envoy, turns a nice shade of red, "You know very well they've hit Kathandu 4, Breed, Paris, Tripoli, Scheat, and many other."
"Oh," the Duke replies in a disinterested manner, "I had heard you were having problems with various mercenary groups along the border. Sorry junior Ambassador, not my problem, those aren't my forces."
An exasperated gasp erupts from the Kuritan official, "What do you mean they're not YOUR forces? They call themselves the "ROBINSON RANGERS"!"
"Oh..", a bored sigh escapes from the Duke, "Those guys... Aren't they led by some person named 'Robinson'... Besides, in the Fed-Com we allow the citizens some measure of free speech, if some rag tag bunch of hooligans wants to name themselves after this planet, or some person named 'Robinson', or after a rock fungus from the outer Periphery, why am I suddenly responsible for them?"
"SIR!", explodes the official, "They have destroyed nearly a battalion of mixed forces over the past year, this is a serious issue."
"Yes, I'm sure it is, junior, it's just not MY 'issue'. It sounds more like the Kuritan forces need a bit more training if some cobbled together mercenary forces are beating the pants off you. I could always send you a few military consultants from my own regiments, perhaps we can help put back some of the fire into the Dragon's forces, eh?" Glancing back down at his desk, "Now, if you'll excuse me junior ambassador, I am in the midst of some serious contract negotiations and have no more time to spend on this."
After the ambassador has stormed out of his office, a slight smile forms on the Duke's lips, he clicks an urgent flashed email, reads it, smiles more broadly, and types in, "Contract Renewal Approved."
