So I just got out of the game in which I died from overheating. I was in my Battlemaster 1D with my 4 Large Lasers and despite chain fire and lots of heat sinks I was running really hot. My lance was defending one of the bases on Conquest and we were going down one at a time. My lance manages to kill 3 of the 6 attackers before it's down to just me. My Center torso is orange, left torso was red and the Victor in front of me lost all his CT armor but my heat was at 90%. I made the decision to hit override, turn off chain fire and alpha strike the dude. I got him but died from overheating.
Dude was totally ticked off, he threatens to report me for intentionally overheating to kill myself. I admit I definitely died on purpose, but it's not like I was at the starting drop point and did it to kill myself to go to the next match. I was trying to kill the dude to give my teammates an edge to victory.
So I ask? Is that a dishonorable tactic or was it the honorable and right thing to do?

This is a video game, not feudal japan.
*edit to be less of a {Richard Cameron}.sorry,I'm bitter lately*
You pulled out all the stops to kill your opponent.Nothing wrong with that. You knew you would over heat and probably cook yourself with that last ditch shot.Who cares? personally I applaud your willingness to kill yourself to take out your opponent, and deny the rest of his team a kill in the process, in an obviously forgone situation.Screw those guys.Bravo.

Seems legit to me. You were gonna die anyway so you might as well take someone with you.

I hope not.

it rare, but I've been in similar situations like yours, where it was hopeless, but just enough to help the rest of the team.

And I think this should make its way to the Barracks eventually.

Congrats Bilbo 3050 posts, never post again keep it forever!

I put this here because it touches on the Code of Conduct and game play balance a bit.

I do it all the time, if I'm being piled on and there's nothing to do but be killed ill smack the override and blaze trying to do as much as I can before I get killed or explode from overheating.

You didn't intentionally overheat to kill yourself, you intentionally overheated to kill someone else. Completely different.

Seems legit to me. Though I have called in arty strikes on my head when getting zerged at the end of the match. Only time I have ever died by artillery but I did at least take another one with me.

What you did is the whole point of override. Taking a chance of heat death to fire one more alpha.
I'd rather die in a blaze of glory.

I believe the OP is putting this here because in the new screwy code of conduct PGI set up a couple months ago 'intentionally overheating' was set up as a bannable event...same and running out of bounds on purpose.

I believe that the spirit of this rule is to prevent people choosing to die for no purpose, by intentionally overheating in a corner of the map by themselves. For people wanting to suicide, telling them 'out of bounds' was unacceptable meant they also needed to cover any other way to suicide with a useless death.

While I'm sure a ruleslawyer would say that the words leave it open to interpretation, I can't see any dev siding with them. You were playing, and chose to take the other guy out, at the cost of your mech. You weren't violating the spirit of that rule.

Hell, I'm constantly hitting override (or coming out of shutdown early) to keep on plugging away. Sometimes those extra few alphas actually make ALL the difference in turning a roll into an even match again.

I say, good for you.

Nothing is wrong with overheating to kill someone else its when you overheat just to kill yourself.

I try to do this as much as possible. When its a 10 v 1 in skirmish (often)... I always try to kill myself and one other guy by mashing the Override button as I alpha away. My death is inevitable, so I make it my cause to ensure that so is yours.

I'd consider it honorable, you went down fighting and that's all that matters really.
