As far as I can tell there is no reason to select ready before playing. Once all players have joined the game simple starts.
Wouldn't it be a nice to have some small bonus (10-100 Cbills or XP) for having been ready at the start of the game?

Why do we need a bonus for readying up before all the players have joined? Just to reward people with better internet connections?

Just use the (now shortened) time like it was intended; to chat with your team about exactly how you're going to stomp the ever-living scrap out of the other team. That probably gains you more CB than you'd ever get by a bonus for clicking a button.

The reward for being ready early is potentially getting into the game faster (if everyone else readies) and measuring your e-peen (my connection is faster than yours!).

What's this, a request for some kind of trophy for participation?

If everyone on each team hits the "ready" button before the timer counts down, the match will start all that much earlier. So there is a reason to use the button.
Although, interesting that you start off with the statement there is "no reason" to use the button, but then suggest that a cbill reward be associated with players who do hit the button. If there is "no reason" for it, then why should a reward be given for (in your words) doing nothing?

True story: I don't use the ready button. I use the pregame time to discuss out location on the map, what our strategy should be, and how we think the other team will react. I also scan my team to look for familiar names as well as the enemy team to know who I'm facing.
Long story short: cool your jets, dude. It's only 20 seconds.

The question is: why do we need the Ready button at all?
The idea was that we needed 60 seconds to talk with our team and make some plans before each match.
Then people moaned and it was reduced to 20 seconds, effectively making the planning period completely worthless. No one ever says anything except "PRESS READY BUTTON".
When they first introduced the Ready button, I called it a pure C-bill income nerf. Months later, I feel fairly confident that I was right all along. It only purpose is to make every match 20 seconds longer.

I'm all for anything that increases income or rewards, unless I play FOTM builds my rewards are far too low for grinding out new mechs.
However maybe you were not aware that sometimes people don't get a chance to push the Ready button due to the fact that they are still loading into the game? If the timer is anything over 20 seconds then someone is still loading in, even if both teams appear full it will not jump down to 20 until all players are fully loaded in.
I've had a couple games where I literally loaded in with 3 or less seconds before the match. Not enough time to see my team's composition much less hit the ready button. What about players whose connections cause that to happen to them often?

That's why the alternative suggestions so far have been a worm or lump of coal.
