Well, we've all been there. Your team is down on its luck. The enemy is up on kills and has the advantageous position. Hope is fading fast, but then, something unexpected happens. Your team makes a brilliant move, the enemy commits a terrible error, or you just get lucky. Before you know it, you've taken the field in a glorious victory.

Post those stories here for us all to enjoy. ;)

I'll start. This happened today. :o

That is a really nice flank. It's a good thing that people (usually) have some sense of tactics in higher elo.

Here's my story : Steel Jaguar Gaming vs Swords of Kentares 12v12 competitive game

Restriction : No jumpjets, No PPCs

This is an absolutely tense game as this was the final drop of turn 5 in the Marik Season 2 campaign (we were winning 2-0 I think). Although there isn't much "action" per se until around the halfway mark, you can hear the comms flare up with information as both teams position themselves to play the capping game.

SJR maneuvered to go for a 3 point cap to pressure us. Knowing they were well-bunkered, we decided to do a quick decision and do an "all-in" gamble : Charging in while their lights were farther away, temporarily outnumbering them 12 to 8 but with them having cover and initiative on focused fire.

However, the SJR light lance, with their quick wits and excellent timing, decide to flank us and pincer us in a moment of transition.

With a stroke of intuition and, most definitely, luck, I happened to stumble upon their charge and the counter-flanking attempt begins...

Gentlemen, please do enjoy this video of competitive 12 man from a light mech's perspective with excellently timed orchestral music~

And yes, I actually do listen to super tense music during games, it helps me focus ;) after rewatching the video, I couldn't believe how well the music timed with the game.

Shout out to Steel Jaguar Gaming, being one of the best (if not the best) competitive unit in the game right now. Always a great series of matches against them and extremely tense and fun.

Very nice game Araara! So much communication and quick tactical decisions there! The music does match perfectly indeed. ;)

Here's an epic one!

We had 4 disco's before the game even began. 8 vs. 12 on Crimson Strait.
I took control of the team and we won it!

A pug match, started with everyone running off in different directions followed by stragglers getting killed off and ended with an intense base defense.

It actually was one of the most balanced matches I've had in a while. Doubt anyone was sure about the outcome until the match actually ended ;)

A couple of weeks ago, I dropped in a PuG on Alpine in my WVR 6R. My range was a bit limited except for the AC10, so the first part of the match, I just took random pot shots and tried to not get out maneuvered. Towards the end, it was down to a lone DDC and I versus a Stalker, Blackjack, WVR 6K, and Cent AL. We ran into them all at once, and it didn't look good. Everyone focused the Atlas, except wine I hit the Stalker from the side. He responded with some serious firepower, so I hid to take the hit off. Again, they focused on the Atlast. I then popped back over the ridge and picked out the Blackjack, who had a wide open, orange CT. I looked at me just in time to take an AC10 round to the gut, and dropped. Next, I focused back on the Stalker. I didn't even had a read out on him, but he must have been badly damaged, as I connected with a full salvo of SRMs and AC10, and he went down. Next, the WVR crest the ridge right in front of me, so I laid into him. He was fairly fresh, but only concerned with the Atlas, so I had his back the whole time. Unfortunately, the Atlas went down at the same time, so I had to face a fresh Cent with an open CT. He had PPCs, so I charged with my arm to him. I was able to close range, so I had the fire power advantage. After a tense eternity in a circle of death, I opened up his right shoulder. Just as we made another pass on each other, I unloaded my SRMs, which hit true and blew out his XL. I ended with a missing left arm, and orange torsos. It was glorious.

The battle was conquest on Frozen City. My TS lance start towards kappa, one slow heavy lance goes tunnel, and the third lance of fast moving mechs ignored kappa and goes for theta and/or attacked the enemy (I'm not really sure). The third lance gets wiped out after we finished kappa and on our way towards theta, leaving the entire intact enemy team to fight the 4 of us.

We tried to draw out the battle and focus fire while we were being pushed back to kappa. I'm in my atlas and I lose all of my weapons and arms and have bright red internals so I drop down to jenner alley in order to waste the enemy time chasing me down there but they ignored me to focus on my remaining lance mates who still had weapons. We got pounded and everybody dies except me but we took down about 3-4 enemy mechs before we were finished.

The remaining enemy then searched out and destroyed the lance that went tunnel without taking any more casualties as I was making up my mind to try to take theta, the only point not captured by our team (looks like tunnel lance took epsilon and their base before they died). When I realized I was the last one I abandoned the trek towards theta and found a crevice to shut down in at 600 versus 300 resource points. It was a long wait and I couldn't see the counter but we ended up with 750 resource points and won the match.

Is that the opposite of a surprise atlas? Instead of not seeing it coming they didn't see it leaving?

It could be :), although I thought at least 2 of them saw me go down to jenner alley. They were still shooting me a couple of seconds before I jumped down there.

I was in a match once where we failed pretty hard. Forest Colony. We had one Spider K left, with a Large Laser and 4 MGs. The enemy team still had three 'Mechs left, an Atlas, a Stalker and a Cataphract.

This Spider is at the enemy base, trying to cap out when the Atlas shows up. Spider turns on the speed and rakes his lasers and machineguns across the Atlas' face before he can even get a readout. The Atlas tanks this fire for about five seconds, then WHAM! Ammo explosion in the head. Atlas drops.

Spider starts to move back onto the base when here comes the Cataphract moving in directly between the Spider and the base. Spider locks on as he jump jets over the Cataphract's head, dodging triple UAC/5s in the process, and sees the Phract's rear armor is gone. Spider punches a large laser into a bright red side torso and the Phract goes down.

Spider lands in the enemy base just in time to see a Misery come over the hill, all lasers and gauss. The Misery never fired that gauss, so I assume it was out of ammo. Spider plays dodgy dance with it and gets his arm knocked off and his CT bright red. Large Laser destroyed. Just as everything seems about to be over the Stalker overheats.

Spider sprays its open side with its last two MGs and the Gauss rifle goes. BOOM! The Stalker collapses in a heap.

VICTORY: All Enemy Mechs Destroyed.

When epic win meets epic fail! :(

If you are impatient, start the vid at 8:00.

All I can say is: TACOSLINGER is now officially my MWO hero.

PS - the talking you hear in the background is Jager's stream, which is time delayed by about 15 to 20 seconds.

If you want to see Jager's perspective, see this:

http://www.twitch.tv...xii/b/493579677

Game starts at the 2 hour mark.

Still a noob and didn't expect to experience any epic battles so soon, especially in PUGS... but

Had a battle last night... i was in a 50ton Hunchback... made a dumb mistake early and wandered into the sights of 5 enemies when my entire unit swarmed left and i was caught up sniping from the right.
I ended up getting *****, lost 5 Mlasers and my 1 PPC... only had 45% armor and 1 Medium laser left just 4 minutes into the match. I managed to run to cover with my unit and limped around pot shooting for the rest of the match. My team ended up having 4 warriors left (in mainly heavies) to just one enemy in a Thunderbolt. I don't know my map names yet, but i think it was Tourmaline Desert with the big cauldron/crater in the middle.

The Thunderbolt was in the bottom of the crater and my allies were spread out around the rim, popping over the edge to take pot shots and then ducking back quickly. And yet that enemy pilot took out my 3 remaining teammates and I nearly "shipped my pants" ... he climbed out of a cauldron, spewing Autocannon (i think?) lead and Missles almost non-stop as all i could do was turn tail and try to run around the rim while angling for the sporadic clear shot.

Just as his rounds were tracing into my left leg and stripping it of any remaining armor and structure...I nailed him with 2 lucky, shakey laser swipes right in the head/center torso area and somehow killed him as he was blasting my left leg off.

To whoever that Thunderbolt pilot is - I salute you. You deserved that win as this noob pilot got very, very lucky.

Nice to see (and hear) about all these "Battlefield" moments. I say"Battlefield" moments because back in the BF2 days, my friends and I had matches that were so epic that we still talked about them weeks after they happened.

Good stuff.

Nah, you did well Mott. Controlling the urge to panic is important. You got stripped but managed to stay alive and seal the deal.

I have no video of it, unfortunately, but there was a match on Forest Colony that was rather epic. My buddy was running an Awesome 9M and I was running my Pretty Baby. Both of us had close range type builds. We decided to fly in the face of convention and roll waterside. Water turned out to be clear so we rolled in for a fast strike on a couple LRM boats and ate them alive. By that time, 4 players on our team were down. My buddy and I attempt to backtrack through water but sniper fire nips that idea. By the time we've gotten out of harms way the remainder of our team is down and it's now a 2 v 7 situation.

That's when the lights hit us, 3 of them. My buddy was running streaks in his 9M and with some help from my well places lasers we take them down just in time for the assaults to hit. An Atlas DDC comes first, drives in and hits me with an AC20 round before I take the cannon from him. My buddy strips his remaining weapons and my 3SRM6s put him face down. Another Atlas and a Stalker round the hill to say hello and strip the armor I have left in seconds. Once again, my buddy and I hit the Atlas where it counts and leave him with no weapons. I lose an arm to the stalker but the Stalker shuts down, letting us do the same to him. Victor from behind kills my buddy. I turn without targeting and unload. He must've taken a pounding against the rest of the team because he drops.

Turn around, look at the stick figure Atlas and Stalker, grin and talk smack in general chat. Give it a few seconds to add insult to injury and then finish them off.

Epic.

This one was a Skirmish match in Terra Therma. I dropped in my new AWS 9M with a Standard engine, an ERPPC, 2 LL, 3 ML and 1 SRM2. <--- Lol I know.

The round starts with the usual team grouping up, but instead of charging into the center volcano to die, we waited for the enemy to come to us at the base of the hill going up to one of the bridges. The enemy's Assaults and Heavies come first, fire a few volleys, and retreat. Apparently the enemy team had great coordination like us, because their Mediums and Lights went out the sides of the volcano and flanked us on both sides.

Before the flankers surround us my team splits in half, with half going left and half going right, leaving me, a Jagermech, and a Highlander to guard the bridge. The few enemies that remain start to charge and we gun them down pretty quickly. The three of us then split up to join our teammmates who had gone to intercept the flankers, with me and the Jagermech going right. At this point the score is 6 to 6. We join up with an Atlas and a Thunderbolt fighting off a Wolverine, a Blackjack, and a crippled Stalker. I sneak into a lava river as my teammates finish off the Stalker, go under the bridge the enemy mechs are fighting from as they retreat and full speed, and open fire on them from behind at about 600m. The two damaged mechs turn around to fire a few potshots at me but a few well-placed PPC and Laser blasts send them running. I give chase, my buddies catch up, and we finish off the two damaged Mediums and split up again.

My radar shows two allied Shadow Hawks fighting 3-4 enemy mechs on the other side of the volcano, so I take a shortcut through. By the time I get to the other side the score is 8 to 8, the only members left on my team are the two badly damaged Shadow Hawks and me. My allies are trying to fight off three Mediums - a Cicada, a Blackjack, and a Griffin. Since I had little damage to my mech I charged in guns blazing and forced the enemy to run for a few seconds (which felt great, by the way. We Awesome pilots don't get to do that very often). The enemy quickly reacted and cored out the two remaining Shadow Hawks on my team, leaving my mostly-undamaged Awesome against three badly wounded - but still fully armed and extremely dangerous - Mediums mechs.

At this point, four words go through my head: "Allright, ****ers. It's on."

I begin twisting and turning my Awesome through the enemies as they surrounded and tried to take out my rear armor. The first to die was the Blackjack, who melted a good chunk of my front torso armor off but went down when my lasers took out his side torso (thank God for XL engines). I whirled around and with a quick glance at the damage readout saw the Griffin had an exposed right torso, and I send an SRM-2 volley into his missile rack, blowing out his right torso and dropping him as well (again, thank God for XLs). However my front torso armor was completely gone, and my left, right, and center CT internals were red; I could die in one shot and it was down to me and a Medium laser boating Cicada.

I open fire with my PPC and manage to nick him before I notice his CT is red too. As he runs to cover by a hill I fire my Large and Medium Lasers at him, overheating my Awesome. At this point I thought it'd be the humiliating end but he doesn't come around the corner again to shoot me, at least not before I was able to power back up. I charge straight for him, lasers ready, and he comes around the corner. We charge straight at one another and fire our lasers at the same time --- and my Awesome drops to the ground like a rock, the Cicada standing over me. Everybody says good game, and I leave the match.

I gotta say I have a lot of admiration for everyone in that match. Everybody did a great job with coordination and teamwork and I especially admire that Cicada pilot for finishing me off - I believe his user was "Animaliztic" or something similar. I really hope I'll get to play with those guys (and gals?) again sometime. :D

Two days ago on Alpine:

After some initial maneuvering, both teams got into perfect firing lines facing one another on the slopes of the mountain at H9. Over the next several minutes a harrowing back and forth firefight took place we all tried to sneak in shots while using the terrain for cover. In my haste to ensure the integrity of my various components, most of my shots miss or are blocked by terrain. Same story for most everyone else, but we get in enough punches that both teams were down several mechs and everyone was billowing smoke.

Finally, my AC/20 ammo was depleted and my PPCs were shot off. Our team was up 6 : 4 but my Victor is now weaponless. Just then one of our mechs takes a heroic swan dive off the top of the mountain into the rear right corner the enemy line. They all turn around to face him, creating a perfect opportunity for us to advance.

I back off and type out: Attack now!
Others join the chorus. Our team advances in a loose firing line and catch them facing the wrong way! In 30 seconds it was over. We had carried the day.

Then I see the ending screen pop up:

Suicidal Baby: 1181 damage, 4 kills 7 assists,
Coburn, 636 damage, 4 kills, 6 assists.

Nice carry guys. I didn't see what you did while I busily hid behind the hills, but damn, that's nice! :D
