Is this always only going to be about what essentially boils down to an FPS with nothing outside of that? Meaning all you can do is pick a mech, jump into a battle, fight it out, finish match, pick a mech, jump into a battle, finish match, pick a mech.....

Will there ever be a reason for fighting those matches? Control of planets? Control of sectors? A larger meaning?

Much more to come, but it's going to take a year+. Read the Command Chair forum updates.

That's all supposed to be coming soon in the Community Warfare updates. We're short on details, but it's supposedly on it's way.

There are community-run strategy games, check out Proxis, Marik Civil War, Inner Sphere Wars (google and you shall find them). But at this point there is no official PGI-run grand strategy game beyond the FPS.

Community Content is what keeps the game going for sure, OP. Check these out!

:)

Either get some friends playing or make some friends in game. Seriously, regular teammates add %150 to the game.

The features you are looking for is collected under the umbrella term "Community Warfare" which is scheduled to come out in stages over the next few months, with the penultimate 'planetary warfare' currently scheduled for next fall. There is a ection of the website devoted to displaying the progress of these features http://www.mwomercs.com/theplan

In the mean time, community run leagues & events exist as well.

Surely, a Founder would know/remember that these features were planned at the announcement of the game? Can't imagine stumping for Elite without it.

Admittedly, PGI has yet to deliver any of it... but I can't help but feel this thread might be better suited to General Discussion than here.

Unfortunately PGI has been rather slow-paced at developing all of this.

This was their latest delivery on the grand scheme in video. Much of it is under "The Plan" with progress meters.
