Instead of the American version of the mech (Walking tanks) they adopted the anime way of thinking (The mechs can do virtually anything a human can do.)
I actually prefer the Japanese approach to humanoid mecha. I don't like mecha that are weightless that fly and jet-skate everywhere literally all the time, but I see no reason why BattleTech's humanoid mecha aren't more versatile and maneuverable than the non-humanoid ones.
Otherwise it defeats the
entire point of making them humanoid.
