The following is quoted directly from the developer notes found here;
http://mwomercs.com/...eveloper-update

MechWarrior Online Minimum System Spec:

CPU:
Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz
Athlon II X2 245e
GPU:
GeForce 8800GT
Radeon HD 5600/5700
RAM: 4 GB
OS: Windows Vista 32-bit
DirectX: DX9
HDD Space: 4 GB
MechWarrior Online Recommended System Spec:

CPU: Core i3-2500 AMD Athlon II X4 650
GPU: GeForce GTX 285 Radeon HD 5830
RAM: 8 GB OS: Windows 7 SP-1 64-Bit
DirectX: DX9
HDD Space: 4 GB
So I would say that WINXP is not supported, but I could be wrong.

Devs first official minimum requirement had stated Vista as min but this was an error. The developers have since stated Windows XP with SP3 will work.

In the forum post they changed it to reflect that Windows XP SP3 is supported.

It doesn't. Well it does, but not fully.

While any 32 bit OS can support 4 Gb of memory (2^32=4Gb), this is ALL memory. If you have a 1 Gb graphics card and 4 Gb of RAM on board, 32 bit Windows (any flavor) will only give you 3 Gb of usable memory. If you have a 512 Mb graphics card, you will get 3.5 Gb of memory.

This is the reason Windows will always show less than 4 Gb of memory.

for gaming, this is one of the biggest reasons to upgrade to 64 bit. Even if you only have 4 Gb of RAM installed you will see improved performance for high end gaming, and just about everything else.

My advice to anyone thinking about playing MWO on a WINXP system is don't, unless you have a hardcore gaming machine. Because your average WINXP PC won't be able to handle it. Remember that WIN8 RC is already available and being beta tested as we speak, and that there will be very little if any support for drivers etc, for older systems. Also there is only about 12 months to go before MS stops supporting WINXP.

Every time a new cutting edge game like MWO comes out you have to update your video card drivers etc, and maybe even update your BIOS. So unless you have a good working knowledge of WINXP and how to fix compatability bugs then you would be better off getting a new PC with WIN7 installed.
