Serious lack of Alphabuilds in my recent games. Last few days have seen a rise in balanced Energy and multiple range builds with people chain firing.

Did i just get some sort of crazy lucky 3 day streak, or did something actually happen? I'm curious now to see if anyone else has been seeing this, or if I just went to a weird place in the MM.

Just luck of the draw I guess. I'm personally so bored of the alpha ac and larm builds built just for easy cheap kill. I like to combine a bit of everything just so I am more useful in just one roll or one enemy type.

It could be any number of reasons: Luck, a change in Elo, people getting tired of the same thing, non-competitive players trying balanced builds over specialized builds. There, can be other reasons, too.

My guess? New player base due to the holiday break. When the college and high-school kids go back, we'll probably see our favorite metas back on the battlefield.

My guess is Elo. I hate to use that excuse, but it's really all I can think of. The games I play are still 50%+ AC/PPC. I will admit that the teams do seem to have a fair distribution of lights/mediums/heavies/assaults, though...that's nice to see.

I'm jealous. AC/40 Jags and Gauss Ilyas in almost every match for me at the moment. It's weird, I went ages barely seeing any of them, but now they seem to be bloody everywhere.

It was a good time to play over the Holidays to have fun - low amount of Metagamers around which was very good for the gameplay.
But they are back in force and EST/PST Primetime is the worst to be online.

hmm. I wish you all could play wherever my elo is.. I suspect its right below the highest tier. Great pilots, generally balanced builds<like i run>, tight matches.. It really is a sweet spot..

Then again, Idont mind seeing ac5s flyin. nor do i mind ppcs. I play V aggressive most of the time, but hell man, you have ALOT of armor even on a medium , so like um. try not to get hit and be smart and alphas arent a big deal .

I think playing during "premade hours" is also part of it.
When i'm playing in primetime i see ALOT of 2ac5/2ppc highlanders and victors.
Outside of the primetime i see only a few here an there. And they fail miserably quite often.

I believe many of the meta players don't want to (and can't) rely on PUGS due to the lack of communication.
If an enemy mech gets into the 90m ppc min range, those meta builds are basically a 90t mech with the firepower of a 45t mech.
If you are running a ac/ppc build and all of a sudden have an enemy DDC within your 90m range, you are toast within seconds. The 90m minrange isn't much of a problem if you have 3 friends with overlapping fields of fire and working communication with you.
It is a problem if your 3 lancemates decide to run after a spider, see the DDC that "sneaks" towards you and ignore him.
