When i first saw the Dev Vlog video I got inspired to start learning AE again. I'm trying to create and intro like the Vlog intro and I need some help from either the creator [would be nice :) ] or people in the community. The part I am having trouble replicating as in I have no idea of how to achieve the effect that is used on the lettering that says "Dev Vlog No." as well as the font used.

Here is my attempt It's still a work in progress but I'm getting there. I'm self taught so go easy on me and if you do explain please do it in detail like you would to a {Dezgra} :P

I think the effect used is the write on effect. Going to try it out this weekend, then all I'll need is to add a glass plate (instead of metal)

I'm learning to use After Effects right now as well. Can you describe the layers you've used, and the effects?

Sure!

Create a composition Main

This is where you will put all the finished compositions in the timeline for rendering and a more neat looking project.

Create another composition [Name]
For the my name to fly in go to "Animation > Browse Presets" this should bring up Adobe Bridge go to "Text > 3D Text > 3D Fly Down Behind Camera" Then change the text to whatever you want. Under Animator1 Add Fill, to the text Add Bevel and Emboss (Outer Bevel, Chisel Hard), Motion Blur. Also I have a layer added as a alpha mask to the text using a metal texture.

Create a composition[Background]
Take a image off the net I searched Nebula for my background
Add the from the Effects and Presets menu under Simulation "Star Burst" or just type it [Faster] also add Glow [Personal Pref]
animate the image to slide left, right, up, or down for the entire duration but move it slightly. This gives it the Parallax Effect.

Create a composition [Title]
The Tech stuff I made in Illustrator at 1920x1080P as 2 layers they all use the Wipe effect change the direction and timing. The left tech line is a layer and the scan lines and the number box is layer they wipe in at different directions.

[As for the weapons text, I'm still looking at how to make it] I have a few leads but will take some trial and error this weekend. This is only my second time (no joke working with AE so I google a lot of things

The number change is a little tricky it's 3 separate numbers with some code added for easy tuning found here in this video

Then of course keying sound in when animation meet the needs :( good luck! Any other questions I'll try to help :(

I'd love to help out, but your abilities in AE far surpass mine.

Ha that's cool man  thanks for the thought. I'm assuming all the art guys quit playing the game, or are playing the game and not the forums. I was really hoping for the guy at PGI that made the intro to spit out the secret. I'm pretty sure I can get the same effect using the write on technique in the video. The only downside is that it's has to be made every time I change the text. So this effect may not be the best option.

I plan on doing weapon videos, maybe a montage or two (not a big fan if them overused and overrated.) I rather help new people learn the game to enrich the gameplay not just pugstop with some dubstep and glitchy shakes with slowdowns.

I'm self taught, I'm sure you have the ability to learn it  you may just lack the focus or drive because you may not be inspired. I'll be working on the intro more this weekend and update the video. Again if you're stumped google is a friend. If you are stuck on a step from my project just ask and I'll do my best.
