Ok so I've seen a few posts here and there about this topic. Seems some people are worried that to much from in the mech lab will unbalance the game. Personally I feel that as much freedom as possible while updating your mech is a good thing but then again I suppose that some concessions made. Any thoughts or comments on how you think the game should be limited or if it shouldn't be limited at all.

How much freedom is to much

i like the system of its the weapon type is not mounted here it cannont be i just dont like the crit restrictions. if they open all crits in a location to any wapon type mounted in that loaction on a perticular mech that would allow for customization within reason along with identifying a mechs modle and "known" weakspots the idea of customization it to fit it to your play style as well as possibly supprise an opponent with a un expected loadout. so if you dont restrict crits just tonnage and location this should be a strong middle ground

My only concern is for visual information.
A PPC constitutes the entire arm of an Awesome and it apparently requires a complete refit of a Catapult in order to mount them, but they actually only take up three critical slots. Going by the Dev Mechlab Video, a Hunchback that dropped its current weapons configuration could easily mount one on each arm while still having room for some secondary weapons. While I certainly don't mind having myself a poor-man's Uziel, I'm not sure how my enemy can properly read my mech when the enormous shoulder cannon is decorative and my pea shooters are spitting coily death. Y'know, at least until I've pegged him a good one, at which point it's a bit late to appreciate the difference.

Not sure we know enough about it to make a judgement at this point. Or maybe I just don't know enough. Either way, chances are that this has not been finalized.

No such thing as 'too much freedom'. Give people enough rope to hang themselves, I say. The smart ones will figure it out and any problems will solve themselves by asphyxiation.
