Maybe I'm missing something, but the legs of Ravens seem to be excessively easy to get hits on. Out of all the matches I've played as a Raven in the last four days or so, except for one death by ERPPC in the side torso quite literally every time I've died so far has been from losing both legs. I'm pretty sure it's not due to people aiming for leg shots to slow me down either; I play as a sniper so I'm not running a whole lot in the first place, and LRMs which should be indifferent are blowing out my legs at least as often as any other weapons. Speaking of LRMs, I've often had them hit my legs and not even damage anywhere else on my mech, which may or may not mean that I die instantly if a large salvo manages to hit.

So, does anyone know exactly why the legs on Ravens are so easy to hit? I've heard someone mention that the hitboxes are just really large, but I don't know why they are that way. Also, any tips on how to avoid dying from this (already allocated more armor to my legs, but it doesn't help that much)?

First off, ravens are tall, and most of that is their legs.

Secondly, I guess back in the days before HSR, ravens ran around nearly unhittable with streak builds that made everyone cry. Ravens could easily take on an assault and walk away with minimal damage taken by return fire. I hear that this led to a balance tweak which made the leg hitboxes bigger, as well as fixing some other issues with raven hitboxes.

Now, with hit reg as good as it's been, raven legs are pretty easy to take out.

Countermeasures to deal with this include taking engagements with a numbers advantage, peeking over ridges to take advantage of high hardpoints (also makes the rest of you harder to hit), engaging from a range (2xERLLas is a great build), using the maximum engine size to make you move faster (therefore harder to aim at), and ensuring you're always right by cover/using cover in a firefight.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. I already do most of what you mentioned due to the build I use (two ER PPCs), but it's good to know the reason I guess. Still, I wonder why the hitboxes haven't been reverted since HSR was implemented. Hit registration is a whole lot better nowadays.

One can only hope that they get around to it with one of the hitbox passes going on with older chasis.

I understand why they expanded the leg and back hit boxes when HSR was broken... but they didn't reverse it when they fixed the issue with Ravens which makes the mech feeling vulnerable.

I love ravens and choose to pilot them(I'm having a love affair with the 4X) so I hope that they properly fix the hit boxes.
