To nerf ACs, pick at least one:
Longer recycle time
Decrease damage
Increase heat
Decrease ammo
Decrease maximum range
Decrease effective range
Reduce projectile speed

Hint: Don't pick the last one. It is the worst option. The slower the projectile, the less consistent the hit detection will be. Remember how the Gauss had terrible hit detection? Then you increased the projectile speed and suddenly almost all the problems went away?

Remember how the hit detection on the AC20 was already bad? Well now it's worse.

Better ways to balance heavy ACs:
-Reduce ammo per ton; more for heavier ACs.
-Increase heat and recycle time, maintaining HPS and reducing DPS.
-Rework the heat system to be low-capacity, high dissipation.
And many more.

They've already reduced the ammo per ton, and they nerfed all ballistics and missiles when they doubled the armor points over TT values.

ACs did not need nurfed. /thread

Amen.

I don't know why they wanted to nerf the AC/20.. because it was a usable alternative sometimes to the AC/5? Either way it's trash now.

And did they really need to nerf the AC/10? Seriously?

.... what we needed this patch was:
  • Increased Ghost Heat limit for Large Lasers
  • Increased velocity for SRMs to help hit detection
  • Reduced Duration/recycle for Pulse Lasers
  • BUFFS to the AC/10 & LBX/10
  • Improved (in about a dozen different ways) machine guns
  • Increased heat transfer and/or damage for flamers
  • A NARC that does something would be nice
What we got:
  • Nerfed AC/20 (Nobody was asking for it)
  • Nerfed AC/10 (Nobody was even thinking it)
WTF.

Ahahahahahaha, you called the AC/20 "trash".

But since when PGI has really succeeded in bug or balance fixing. This is how it has always looked like:

Here we go again nerf Nerf NERF!

Yet again something that R&R values would have sorted out REALLY quick gets the boot in the head instead coz somebody can't think of a better way to do it despite hundreds of worthy alternatives to "fix" a problem that should never existed.

You know what? I'm lucky Hit detection has never been a bug thats bedevilled me half as much as some I bet I can adapt adequately to the AC nerfs. I bet many folks will too and when you see whatever "meta" that you were trying to balance is not greatly reduced you might understand that the problem is not always what your limited (what was it 50 something) staff think it is but what your: 500? 5,000? 50,000? 500,000? strong player base have been telling you it is!

colour me unimpressed.

I was going to type up another long analysis on weapon balance, heat system, firing speeds, and fitting capabilities.

Can't be bothered, with PGI's behavior and attitude, I can't afford to care.

R. Bollocks and P. Inureye, will continue to do whatever, regardless of logic, precedence, whatever, so long as they can grab the money from as many as possible for as long as they can. More important to get another mech out for money than to really balance the game.

But we got a new Hero Mech. That's what we all need !

And everyone is still be waiting for a Locust or Spider Hero Mech, which are still missing.
We will see them for sure in in the next two patches and this will definitely we bring MWO to the next level.

Until then...

ive never poptarded. i belived that ac10 was a nice compromise of dmg/rng tho its recycle should be 2 and not 2.5s.

just wanted to add that its the first time i havent seen a new mech ingame whole day after release.
i wonder what could that mean...

You sir have absolutely no clue what you suggest. :P
Good that you're no in charge for anything MWO related.
