I think that the current modes (apart from skirmish) are too much out of place for any type of planetary conquest.

I'd rather see missions like:
- Capture/Defend the space port (who holds this location has a option to evacuate later on)
- Capture/Defend Supply depot (get spare parts/ammo/weapons for free)
- Destroy/defend communication relays (the winning team will be able to field more tonnage in the next match)
- Scout locations/Destroy scouts (unlocks a new mission depending on who succeeds)
- Escort/Destroy/Capture convoy (depends on the nature of the convoy)
- Trial of possession (without dumbing down the Clans)

Unfortunately the devs treat this game way too much like a generic shooter and make it way too much like "capture the flag" instead of a sim for mech warfare.

What would you rather do?
Capture the flag?

Or something like these?

I agree 100%

I think CW will force players to integrate all modes into their play list and those that refuse to learn tactics for certain modes because they "don't like it" are going to be hurting a bit.

And those of us that tried to talk sense into the blob for the better part of the year 2013 will feast on their Tears of Inferiority when it does... It will be glorious..

I despise skirmish, that`s what Quake and Hawken are for, brain dead "just wanna shoot something" pseudo-action. But I still queue for "Any" for exactly the reason atated above. I mean, why settle for being superior at 2 game modes when I can tear them apart on their home turf as well, and thereby humiliate them even further. ;)

I have a problem with skirmish. I play light mechs a lot. I drop with people who play lights and mediums also, and anytime skirmish comes up we end up fighting groups with strictly heavies and assaults and our team is out ton'd by very large amounts at times. I should start screencapping it but I've ended up on some unbalanced teams. That's what kills skirmish for me, for the most part multiple lights and mediums on a skirmish team is going to mean a loss.

True, skirmish is definitely the place where most players bust out the "Heavy Jumbo" playbook. I find that in playing "Any," those slow assaults can be a liability, especially in Conquest mode. So the trick is to find a build that can do as much of it all as possible, and of course to get good enough with it to take on those big boys. Check out those 55 tonners, if you haven't already. I'm getting pretty good results in all modes with them, "Jacks of All Trades" and all of that.

Of course, these days I'm pushing myself to see how well I can hang in "Any" with a wee 45-ton BJ-1 ;)...

I fear a decent sniper BJ in Skirmish more than I fear the poptarting wanna-be tanks people keep trying to play the Shadowhawk in. ;)

But you can play the Blackjack as a poptart...

Exactly! but since the BJ is "weaker" the pilots who stick with them tend to be far deadlier

True, you could. But you really don't have the weight to pull-off the big PP alpha that is the poptart's calling card. Not unless you sacrifice a lot of speed and mobility with an underpowered engine (and I personally think the BJ's already get a raw deal with their sucktastic engine cap). Of course, without the speed and maneuverability of a fastjack, you're kind of defeating the point of versatility with regard to playing "Any."

If your going to move like a 80+ tonner, you might as well just run an assault poptart and get the guns and armor to go along with it.
