I do find it interesting that the Pendant Posting Police seem to have simply liked this thread and not applied their adopted standard of trying to remove what could be considered as repeated subject content cause it contains the word "nerf" in it.

Always useful to demonstrate a double standard when trying to control things, well done.

(I'm happy for freedom of expression to continue as needs and moderation to be concerned about posting behaviours however, not players)

complains when someone calls out a duplicate post
complains when someone doesn't call out a duplicate post

hmmm...........
Let me guess, typical MWO forumite?

Its extremely easy to understand, neither of these issues is a concern for players to attempt to control, it is for moderation to decide on appropriate posting behaviour.

However, you didn't follow your own convention, double standard. Which is irrelevant to the issue as you have no authority over posting practices.

But umm, players 'think' and come up with new metas.

Yes. So the idea is to get the game into a state where the meta is quite broad.

Take MMO's for example; For the longest time they had the "holy trinity": Tank, DPs and healer. Things have moved on in MMO's now but at least that meta allowed for 3 different kinds of gameplay.

The Meta in MWO is very very narrow allowing for only one real kind of gameplay. Metas are not bad. Hopelessly narrow metas are bad.

The problem with MWO is that the Meta isn't actually a result of weapons.

So.. instead of modifying the speed of the projectile why not just have a steeper damage drop off after 270 meters? I have a feeling the AC10 adjustment was also a preemptive adjustment to keep people from switching their AC20's out with AC10's in the dual PPC AC builds.

Actually I did, I just used Roadbeer's instead of mine. That's what the "soon" was for lol

Dear PGI

You should just make all weapons have the same range, heat and damage. That way people will have nothing to complain about and you wont have to change the weapons characteristics every month. Why should players have to think for once and come up with new load outs to counter balance the "meta" (pretty sure people are using this term wrong) or "cheese" builds of the moment.

High quality snarky irony that's actually construtive.

+1 to you sir!

When will it end?

I suspect it may not.

Russ bullock (or was it bryan ekman? I know it was one of the two) on one of the past no guts no galaxy podcasts basically said they had no problem with their philosophy of blancing being described as "whack-a-mole." I geninely belive that PGI thinks that the patches will become less and less invasive BECAUSE ... the problems will get less and less problematic.

This would be absolutely true, if it were resasonable to expect problems would get smaller... but there's no way to predict the total consequences of a patch fix. Patches always have to be as invasive as the problem deems them to be, be it a bug or be it how thoroughly the community exploits the unintended consequences of a patch.

This also stems from the fact that the "balance" idea in this community is an utter wax nose - people will tell you balance=equality, but nobody has made a logically coherent argument as to what should be equal and why it should be equal, much less an argument that, while irrational, at least convinces a lot of people... and the forum response is taken into consideration by PGI (they have said they do take it into consideration).
