Tuesday I had a match, and a player did something that I wanted to publicize my thank you for.
I did thank him in the match... but some things deserve more.
Thank you to GOatfigHter.
On Caustic Valley - in a Cataphract 4-X that by all appearances was half the speed of any of the assault mechs on our team - GOatfigHter traveled halfway across the map to save me from a Jenner.
The full story goes as such:
I dropped in my Deathsnail, with 4 small lasers as my loadout - my first time with that loadout.
The match raged on around the caldera, at various points I ran through the enemy lines getting them to turn around and try to hit me (most of the few other light mechs there were did not survive the opening salvos)
Suddenly we received notice that someone was trying to capture our home base - our radio tower thingy - our link to our Dropship - our link to our Commanders.
Being by far the fastest one on our side, I volunteered to head back, but warned them I would not be able to put up much of a fight, as the armor had been stripped from my lower half, and one leg was all but destroyed.
They did not respond.
Halfway back I checked the radar - they were all facing into the caldera - and I did not blame them. The enemy had a strong firing line, and to turn their backs could be suicide.
I soldiered on anyways - at the very least I could slow the unknown enemy and hope my team would be able to return before he finished his grim deed. Though in hindsight I should have known who it was, as I had seen them disappear in that direction some time ago.
When I arrived I found a Jenner (6 laser model, not that familiar with the chassis line) that I had last seen escorting a Stalker - his center was damaged, but I would be unlikely to core him before he legged me.
As I began the duel I found hope, as the Jenner failed to target my legs - instead sweeping his greater armament across my shoulders and midsection.
Even with him targeting poorly though, the sheer amount of greater power in his mech was threatening to overwhelm me when I noticed explosions hitting the ground around him - as I turned to expose stronger armor I saw, incoming, a team member I had previously hardly noticed, bombarding the Jenner as he approached!
GOatfigHter got the kill - and I survived the match.
At the speed he was moving I would not have even attempted to return to base myself - I would have instead hoped that whatever brave/crazy light pilot headed back would either be lucky enough to do it on his own, or that, as stated above, would slow the enemy down enough to allow us to return after killing the rest of our foes.
(seriously - the Atlas' were moving faster than he was!)
I would have posted sooner, but I remembered seeing a similar topic once, dedicated to holding such people up - and it took me till now to find it - ejected beyond the periphery.

Thank You

Sometimes people get this skirmish thing is about a bit of teamplay. Remember him when he will on your opposite side and will blast your 'mech apart in seconds too though!

Actually I have been wondering.... he does not appear to have a forum account.
I know for a fact you do not need to have visited the forum for one to be made, as a person I recruited to play has one, and he has yet to visit here...
My friend Xabidar, played 3 matches, one on his computer, 2 on mine.
He ha a forum account - he has yet to visit.
GOatfigHter (I have a recording of that match, so I am sure of the spelling) does not - or at least searching for him brings no results.
