In the mech warrior universe there are many many merc factions out there. One of the most famous being the Wolf's Dragoons. Currently they merc icon is a bit... boring. Is there any chance of getting a few of the more famous merc company icons to show our merc colors?

Unlikely. Why show famous unit colors unless you're actually in those famous units?
The well-known canon merc units won't be available right away. They will be special system-controlled "factions" that are invite-only based on getting certain achievements in-game. Wolf's Dragoons has been mentioned specifically as having an invite achievement of getting maximum loyalty ratings for all Great Houses. That will be difficult (or at least, very time-consuming) to achieve. These merc factions won't be available until well after the first stage of CW is released.
I think it would be cool if you were in a player-created unit in-game, and the unit's symbol appeared as your forum icon or at least as a part of it.
