And how good you must be to adapt to this:

Note: screenshot is from a game played in the last hour, had a few similar drops yesterday, although those only had about 300-ish tons difference. Must admit that it feels quite satisfying when you win one of those, but still I'd rather have some form of tonnage limits in place

LOL, thats ridiculous, and occurs all to often imo.
MM should be able to at the very least put one of those all assault lances on the other team, after all we are supposed to believe its 24 evenly matched skilled pilots.

I am a pretty decent player and I dont even use the meta of using ac20 all the time I like my lasers, but after getting stomped due to poor skill of team mates hell that roadbeer white knight dude was even on my team once and he never even did any damage to the enemy team, so I'm taking a nice long break from this game till it's more than just a boring destroy all mechs shooter it's pretty much cod with mechs instead, but at least cod has more depth than this game. I hardly call this a full game really it's far from being completed. I regret spending a penny I know you dont have to but we were promised a pretty exciting and in depth game and didn't even come close.
Will wait till cw comes out to play it again and thats a big MAYBE since well by that time I will have a decent amount of games on my ps4, I prefer fully featured complete retail games that cost 60 bucks for everything than spending on a bunch of worthless micro stuff like color of your mech, and screw grinding for anything in this game anymore I dont have the patience for it anymore, sick of playing for hours for barely anything, and I refuse to buy premium time they ask way too much and I happen to have a life I work quite a few hours in a day, so it's wasted money.
Meh this game had potential but not under this developer just look at the games they have made....none of them were rated much higher than just plain terrible or mediocre. Why they were given the ip is beyond me, guess they were desperate. Better that the franchise be buried than for it to be tarnished.

Everyone has matches that they've "derped" and died before any real contribution. But that isn't common place, instead whats happening is you are skilled enough to balance out an entire lance of assault mechs with average pilots.
Its frustrating as hell being "Elo Matched" with very new players to balance vs a bunch of average players. But then you end up on the other side of the coin every now and then.
Still less stomps now then 1 year ago. Weight matchmaking should improve this stomping madness greatly.

Anytime you play against Villz and the GGCLOSE crew you can expect the highest of the min/max Metalander builds.
Because winning 10,000 matches the same way is fun!

Exactly, and I've seen this a lot. Just switching a lance between teams would do wonders for the match. Why the MM algorithm can't do this mystifies me.

Rotten luck and all I felt just like sharing because this is actual feedback and we ALL know it's the grim reality of this game. The match maker has been much worse than normal lately tho, and its a clear indication that once the kids went returned to school, MWO's population is back in the toilet. Something else I've noticed is that since before the holiday I've never had over 40 ping and now it's always in the 80s. I'd love to know WTF is going on over at PGI but I'm more likely to know what the NSA is doing than those hacks.
With my gripe about mediums... I'm slowly being proven wrong in a sense that the Shadowhawk, Griffon, and Wolverine are all vastly superior to others, even some heavies. Like OMFG how many hits does it take to down you superior? I play mediums and brawl almost exclusively so when it comes to even subtle changes they're noticed, and everyone can tell that PGI is balancing mechs around selling newer ones.
The combination of all these factors last night led to this post. Normally poor matchmaking only rears its ugly head when I pug but even in lances last night every other match was a crazy blowout. No booze or poor judgement involved just some bad luck along with a lot of little things adding up, hence this mild rant.
Enjoy!
The pings went up when they did some server work in late November/early December.
As for matches ... I really haven't noticed much difference. About 25% have an apparent imbalance (tonnage) though other balance issue are impossible to assess since we don't know the teams/pre-made groups or pilot ELO.
It feels like 50% of matches fall in the 12-2 or less category (for either team). I don't know though since I haven't kept records and perhaps we should so we can back up the feeling with some numbers.
However, this issue may just be due to the fact that MWO is a team game that is generally unforgiving of mistakes. If you have two teams running around with no coordination then losing two mechs isn't a big deal since the other side may lose two in similar circumstances ... but against teams with decent organization using focused fire ... a two mech advantage may be all they need to sweep the floor.

Not the same as 2 teams with similar average scores.
Basically it builds the first team. Then it looks to build the opfor. The longer it takes, the more it widens the search, ie allows a wider variation in Elo and tonnage.
Look at it this way, variety is the spice of life. It's also more realistic this way. You are told to raid a planet, you land and find that they are hosting the annual Assault Mech Festival......
In all seriousness, I play to have fun. That means running around, trying not to die, and hopefully dealing some damage along the way. It isn't about just winning or KDR. A really hard match is a great way to hone my skills, it forces me to be at the top of my game or die horribly.

L4D2 is a game that doesn't allow for mistakes. MWO allows any mistake to be corrected with Modules.
edit: I'm sure there's a module that explains the conception of most regular posters for example.

1030 vs 625. I don't know that I have seen a worse tonnage difference.

Frankly, this is rather common, that it's hard to want to respond to these threads w/o agreeing to both sides of the argument.

I dunno, all those matching colors of the team means I have a full house or 4 of a kind... does that mean I win if there are 12 LNW?

Like running into you for instance. I feel ashamed the few times I've seen you I've been terribad plastered because I'm sure it will take me a good month to get my elo back to your level again unless the matchmaker decides to play a cruel joke on us.
Every time someone complains about the matchmaker I can only imagine the matchmaker AI replying...
