Hello there! I'm sort of new here, have been playing and trying different mechs adn the catapult called my attention.

I spent a few hours reading about how to play it (the lasers one, K2) and found some builds but had some doubts about why those builds were like that, so i wanted to make mine.

Any thoughts on it? It was kind of hard since that site has everything on 0 from the start u.u
But after checking with the game and other build sites I managed to end it :D

In short: 4 ER Large Lasers + 2 AC/5. In the link ther eyou can see the armor and heat dissipation... which i know not if it's ok or not :c Maybe i should drop 2 lasers for more heat sinks?

Thanks!

Your basic setup is OK -- the AC5 and the ERLL line up nicely. However, you have too little ammo. You want 2 or 3 tons per gun. Typical Catapult builds with ballistics use XL engines without FF armor to save enough weight for additional equipment. You may want to move the lasers to the torso and drop the ear armor, or remove AMS. Also, you always, every time, want maximum torso armor. Based on your build, I would do this. 5 tons of AC5 ammo will last for a while, and you will be hard to kill with the standard engine. You lose ridge sniping ability, though.

Lol, you put most of your armor in the rear of your Side Torsos? :D

Anyhow, you should look into putting in a XL engine as the Side Torsos are rarely taken down in the CPLT's, and you can lower the armor value in your ST's to around 40+ and still be fine. The XL engine will allow you to gain tonnage to add more DHS, armament, etc. 2 tons of ammo seems a bit light, so another ton at least would be good. And hold off on the Ferro until after you dial the mech completely in.......chances are you will not be using it as.

Here's an idea:

That 2 tons of AC ammo is going to last for a very very very short time. I run 6 tons of ammo in my double AC5 fitted shadow hawk and even with 3 tons of ammo per gun i have matches where i burn through all of it. The bare minimum is 2 tons per AC5 end expect to run out frequently.

Edit: i see modo already mentioned it.

A valiant first try (Only 2 ER Large listed btw) and the guns aren't too awful, but it's really not the K2's strength.

Really with the K22 you want to run twin Gauss, twin AC/20, or maybe twin Ultras with a PPC. Ultimately the first two are the only things people do with the K2.

If this is the only 'mech you own, I recommend you try 2 UAC/5 and a PPC instead, or give a basic 2x Gauss/2x AC/20 model a setup.
PS: Also check into Ghost Heat - you need to stagger fire for certain guns and it's in particular true with 4 Large Lasers.

I agree that only 2 tons of AC5 ammo is really low. I'd carry at a minimum 4 tons or more with any kind of ballistics.

I would hurry to upgrade to at least Standard Engine 285. I primarily drive a Catapult, and I feel that you have no chance at surviving a light Mech circle strafing you with anything below that, you simply cannot turn fast enough. With 64.8 km/h, you have no chance of disengaging from anything except the slowest of assault Mechs.

By losing the two extra double heat sinks and some leg armor, you will be able to keep all the armament with a 285 engine. I would personally go for an XL300 or higher, but it will take time to collect the C-Bills for it. However, low AC5 ammo will still be a problem. You will have to make a choice between whether if you want ER Laser as your primary weapon and AC5 as only a temporary one or to use AC5 as a primary and sacrifice the ER Laser. By exchanging the 2 ER LLasers for 4 M Lasers you get more continuous fire options and more AC5 ammo. Your medium to close range firepower will actually increase. Only down side is that you lose long range laser capacity.

Not quite so.

Many people do things other than dual AC20 or Gauss with K2.

My set up is dual AC10s which also gives me room for 4 M Lasers with 300XL engine, so I won't have to bet everything on the two guns. Max damage I did with it so far was 900 in the past month.

+1@Grayblue, there are more builds than just the dual AC/20's or Gauss's. I also run the 2xAC/10's & 4xMLAS with a XL300......great build.

I disagree with the getting a standard enginge though, the Catapults shine with the XL engines......their side torsos are so small that the XL is perfect for them.....and think it's a waste to invest in a std engine when you will be upping it later.
