The cyan and green laser beams splashed over the monsters centre torso, gigajoules of energy melting armour plating. The droplets of liquid metal dropped to the ground in front of the giant war machine but the destructive light didn't stop it, short range missiles streaked in to blast fragments of armour but still the behemoth strode forward.

The autocannon in the side torso throwing out high explosive shells and its own arm mounted lasers sowing destruction among the men, women and buildings of Arthurs Town. Just as all seemed lost the war machine lurched from a massive blow, sending the one hundred ton 'Mech stumbling forward.

A Highlander, Griffin and Blackjack appeared out of the night sky on pillars of flame, their jump jets bleeding the speed of their airborne drop and allowing them to control their descent. The Highlander fired its Gauss rifle into the Atlas' rear armour again and the Blackjack added its class 20 autocannon to the viscous blow, the Griffin's PPC backlighting the 'Mech with its blue manmade lightning.

A series of sympathetic explosion erupted from within the Atlas, as ammunition for the autocannon and missile racks cooked off, the giant assault 'Mech toppling to the ground. A plume of dust was thrown up into the air alongside the cheers of the towns militia and as the screen of dust began to settle the soldiers got the first look at their saviours.

All the 'Mechs had a dark paint scheme with red and orange highlights, the Highlander sporting the emblem of a fierce looking bird encased in a circular background of flame, he letters "Zulu-6" emblazoned below it in white.

The lieutenant in charge of the towns militia called over an open frequency "Whoever you are MechWarrior, you have our thanks", for a second only static fills the channel then eventually the reply came "The Phoenix Talons don't suffer attacks on the weak lightly. We stand for those who can't defend themselves"
