Been a BattleTech fan for a really long time, not as long as some of the folks, but 1991 is a while back. From Crescent Hawk to table top and miniatures to MechWarrior, MechCommander, had my birthday at one of the BattleTech centers with the pods (still go to the one in Seattle once in a while), read a lot of the books, and even gave Mech Assault 1 and 2 a chance. I was mostly a casual player, I did not enjoy playing with one of my friends who had a Clan Streak boat. Think of all the dice rolls!
As soon as I saw the promo video, I signed up for the Founders package, and sort of saw how things evolved since closed beta. Coming from a software engineering background, and with many friends in the game industry, I understand how hard it is to make a great game and try to please everyone, and still have a profitable game. With that said, I echo quite a few folks' sentiment of some of the promised features and balance issues to make the games more fun and accessible but still have enough depth for hardcore players. I bought both previous packages because I love the BattleTech franchise, and would like to see it continue to be viable. However, it would be hard for me to plop down $240 for the Clan Package right now. I think Russ said as much in to the community, those of us feel that way should wait until the features are out. Aside from Community Warfare and UI 2.0, wishlist I have here reflects of a casual player who exclusively play PUG.
1. Weapon convergence, this topic has been discussed possibly too many times on the forum with many good suggestions. I like the ones where it is speed based, that reflects a little bit more of the table top that it is harder to aim when moving on uneven terrain. This also solves all the high alpha, pin point, ghost heat issues. UAC20 being of the biggest concern for the future.
2. Integrated VOIP, for a causal player, this is huge. Communication wins and loses games, I think we've all had that experience.
3. Match making, not really exact tonnage match, but something like Battle Value and ECM. Sometimes when your team only has one assault and no ECM while the other has 3 DDCs and a Raven, it's not an even match from the get go. Also for Clan, I like the suggestion of 12 IS vs 8 Clan or something along the lines of a tonnage handicap.
4. Mech pricing, as a casual player, it's easy for me to decide to get a mech for $5-7 than a mech that's $30.
