I didn't see a troubleshoot section by name so I'm posting this here.

I'm having a problem where, on infrequent occasions, when I click "Launch" my monitor immediately goes black. Instead of a steady blue button beneath my screen, it blinks.

I turn the monitor off and on, hit keys on the keyboard, nothing happens. I have to restart the computer. When I come back into MWO I do see that my mech is "in game", but I'm obviously afk to the people in the game.

This could be a hardware problem I suppose, but it only seems to happen with MWO and even then only sometimes.

I've ran scans for viruses and malware. I have ensured that my drivers are up to date.

Any thoughts, ideas? I'll take whatever I can get.

Edit: I should add, in recent months my computer has done the exact same thing when I try to wake the computer up from "sleep" mode. Black screen, blue button blinking, keyboard/mouse don't wake the computer up, have to restart. Not all the time, but occasionally.

Greetings,

First thing is to check what the screen resolution is set for in the game. "Under the options section." And what the refresh rate is showing. [never attempt to go higher than what your monitor is capable of displaying]
- normal refresh rate is 60Hz, new higher end 3D monitors may be able to display 120Hz, but can default to 60Hz.

[An example: my 21inch monitors default resolution is 1920x1080 at 60Hz.]

Are you using VGA or DVI-D plug in's, or any adapters a either end?

- The flashing power button on the monitors is an indication that the monitor is looking for or trying to find the video signal.
- Check what the default resolution and refresh rate is for your monitor, try to stay at those setting for the best clarity.
- The black screen indicates that there is no signal being sent to the monitor, and the video card is processing the signal, trying to configure it for you "in game" settings.

- Check that the monitor video plugs are firmly pushed in and tightened, any loose plugs will sometimes give erratic signals. If you can exchange the cable going from the video card to the monitor. (with a new cable, to rule out any possible issues with the cable.)

Faulty resolution settings are normally the result of the black screen, the flashing power button just shows that the monitors are trying to work but can't get a correct display configuration. Also look to see if your display drivers are current, Nvidia just released new drivers last week.

Note here:
My monitors also go black as I go into each match, only lasts for a second or two, but that's because the monitors are waiting for the vid cards to send the spanned image to 3 monitors. I hear other players on Team speak tell me what map we are on before I can actually see the map.
Have you tried to wait for a few seconds or longer to see if the video cards will eventually compile the signal and send it to the monitor/s? (And just what are you running? One or multi monitors? And what resolution?)

Final note:
Have you noticed if this happens on a specific map or group of maps, or just random. Noting that not all the maps are optimized as the latest maps may be.

Just some suggestions to narrow the error down.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to work on this as I have time today. Life has been hectic and distracting lately.

The most recent time that my computer failed to "wake up" I got a new message very briefly before it faded off the screen. When the computer eventually did wake up I got an error message that said, "Display driver stopped working and has recovered". So I'm googling that particular error message.

As for the screen not working when I try to play the game, that hasn't happened again since the day I posted the original message.

If you have an Nvidia graphics card, try reverting to the 314.22 drivers. Make sure you do the Advanced option and click the "clean install" check box.

Some people are having problems with newer versions of Nvidia drivers, but the 314.22s seem to work. Might depend on exactly what GPU your card has, but we haven't gotten that far in tracking the problems yet.

Or try running 3dmark and see if you can duplicate it. . . possibly a hardware problem?
