I came back to the game and started playing new kintaros.

I bought the kto-18 first and did really well in it. Was having a blast for a few days. I have pretty average skill and couldn't believe how well I was doing. Unlocked basic, then bought the other variants.

With those new variants, I can't break 200 dmg or get a single kill. Every game is horribly imbalanced. Veterans/premades vs brand new players who run into the firing squad one at a time like lemmings.

Something broke with the matchmaker in that 1 week time period.

See how different my stats were for those 3 variants:

Went from even win/loss and high KDF to low win/loss and low KDR. Similar builds on all variants, same player and play style.

My ELO might have increased after playing the kto-18, but should the matchmaker perform such a huge over-correction? My ELO should have been stable for mediums anyway, since I used to play them a lot. Unless there was a reset?

Regardless, this is ridiculous. No fun playing a game you don't have a chance to win. I wasted all my free premium time on these horrible mismatches. No way I am spending more money on this game.

Lub

edit: i actually bought the kto-18 first, not the kto-19. typo.

Elo is an imaginary number that is inaccurate by as far as based off inaccurate statistics. So is this system called "matchmaking".

Don't rely on or it or even think about it, leave that fallacy for the duped and foolish.

Same account. I've been playing since the beginning of open beta.

Not sure exact dates of my break. I think I started playing about a week ago, and hadn't played for at least a full month before that.

Okay then so you had a ELO score even before playing with the kintaro.

After seeing lights tear through assualts and meds putting up a good fight, I myself can tear an atlas with a hunchback.

The matchmaker is always bad, especially if you drop solo. The adjustments only helped the best and worst players get more games, they did not fix the inherent issues with tonnage and skill mismatches. As far as official info, a new matchmaker is supposed to come with Community Warfare later this year.

Thats true but whats gonna happen when community warfare comes in and replaces all of this. Draconis might send a light party to a planet and get ambushed. You gotta learn to deal with the situation.

Yes, if we didn't have the MM paired with ELO ratings, that would be the case.
But guess what ? The MM is supposed to create two equivalent teams based on their ELO ratings. That's why ELO ratings was introduced back in march : to prevent roflstomp ... Seeing the results i would rather get back to the old MM without ELO ratings.

Why is the MM not seperated in noobs, good players and pro skill.
Is this so complicated to put an rating on a players head ?

I dont wanna play with that noob rubbish!

Welcome to MWO, where the ELO is made up and the tonnage doesn't matter

When hasn't matchmaker been broken? Regardless I've had huge mismatches and still help secure a solid win. It's all about you working with your team, if everyone just wonders off dont expect a good match.

I can see allowing 4 low ELO new players in a drop of 4 man premade with 4 mid level pugs.... to keep it even, the other team gets the same thing, high level 4man, to guide the mid level and lower ELO level players to victory.............im sure if it was actually setup the humble pie could be shared by all and a lesson on butt kickery would ensue. not just a hopeless pug stomp..........which kills the fun for both sides really unless u need the KDR bloat........ :P

As I've posted before...the easiest fix for this is to use quantifiable information already available to the MM.

Either go by where you are in the Mech's XP tree (Basic, Intermediate or Mastery) or simply use an overall GXP earned sort of thing.

You'd start to see things a bit more even...or, at least you'd NEVER have to hear some new guy in a Trial Mech ask "Um...how do I move forward?"
