If your ever in front of your enemy - your done for.
if your ever surrounded by enemies - your nearly done for
If your caught mid air - Once your legs have buckled - your possibly done for
If you fall off a cliff - You best take a back seat as your legs will be sore.
If you scout the enemy - you need a bloody good escape route.
BUT
If you find a lone mech (preferably bigger the better) and are behind him - He's done for.......
See where i'm going with this. The locust is the master of corner peeking (esp the 1E), (hill humping is iffy) but rear coring is it's speciality. It can duel allright but you need fast reflexes and never just hold your throttle open and run in a straight line or even a curve you need to throw that throttle all over the place as the locusts quirks means its the sharpest Accelerometer annoying mech in the game

It's a hunter, and hit-and-runner.
See this post for more info about how the Locust works.
Also, generally a 190XL is important (and well worth the investment for proper Locusting - I'm up to 4 XL190's now), as is Speed Tweak.
That 10kph might not seem like much, but it makes a difference.

Lets you dodge AC20 fire at range with a bit of practice.

When I get home, I'll post some motivation for ya...
It's totally worth it when you pull off the backwards, half-court shot at the buzzer

I will grant ou that. Speed tweak is a game changer with the locust for sure.

Here you go - this is what the Locust is for. Nailbiter matches that end at the buzzer, and being the most annoying thing on the field.

Just bear with the locust it will reward you when skilled up. Its actualy my go to mech when im having a bad day in mwo (which is a lot since the server change for some reason). There have been times when ive ran the whole way around a map at 160/170kph just to position myself behind the enemy but when i get there i start rear coring them. If theyre switched on they'll turn to face me giving my team the opportunity to finish them from behind with more firepower.

Cool, problem is first game I had this morning with locust I get gaussed in the back by a friend and killed after firing only one shot, I think destiny doesn't want me to be a locust pilot.

Heh, that happens. I can't tell you how many less than double digit damage matches I have racked up. Most of them were in the growing phases when I was new to Locusts. Now, it's pretty rare, and, more often than not, I am at the top of team damage, even when we get rolled. The learning curve is steep, and it's hard to describe some of the things you just pick up after a while, but you start to get a better sense of where everyone is and take action instinctively that makes the difference between being alive and being dead.
Friendly fire sucks, and it sucks even more in a Locust. Even more annoying for me is teammates running me over at the beginning of the match because we start right on top of each other. Having 20-40% leg armor stripped before enemy contact is aggravating. But this, too, I will learn to avoid with time.
Just gotta learn how to breathe through your eyelids like the lava lizards on the Galapagos Islands.

But yeah, I've been cored in a single well-placed shot before. Dodging AC/20 is easy--stay at range. Dodging Gauss? Erm, uh, guys? Could use a little help over here...

ERLL based mechs will have a hard time training the lasers on your mech for the full duration (provided you aren't running in a straight line). ERPPC based mechs will have a difficult time aiming (my experience: people running ERPPC lights are either deadly crackshots or can't aim worth crap, your mileage may vary). I like my chances against most Spiders 1v1.
Ravens, I guess it depends. The ERLL sniper variety seems to be good prey for the Locust. If he elects to duel, take advantage of your tight turns and his long weapon duration. If he elects to take cover and "snipe?" Well..
I don't encounter too many other types of Ravens besides the ERLL sniper, the SRM Hugin, and occasionally a brawler type. Probably best to not go it alone.
I rarely see Commandos much either, but I've had some good fights with them. They seem to have some strong advantages on paper: more durable, higher top speed (!). But, if you're running a laser boat Locust, you have the edge in power if you keep moving. And this is where the Locust shines, you are ever so slightly more maneuverable and have better torso twist. Even though the Commando has the arms that can move horizontally, if you keep moving you can negate the SRMs he's got in the CT by making it difficult for him to manage both arm and torso reticules. You do have the luxury of not having to micromanage holding lasers on target and leading missiles (don't have much experience dealing with Streakmandos in the Locust tho).
Jenners, probably a bad idea unless they are hurt.
FIrestarters.. I'll tell you what, I don't think I've ever managed to shake a 7+ SPL Firestarter. Once they're in range, you better hope have buddies because all they need is a fraction of a second to end your night.
Against other Locusts, it's a duel of tiny proportions!
Of course, the Locust works best NOT in a duel situation, but either sneaking behind the enemy and coring them out, or acting as an assault mech's extra weapon targeting weak components. I very much prefer the lasers variants over the missile ones, as I find that they operate much better independently.

At least not early in the match...
I will admit, I break this rule every time I see another Locust. There can be only one. Must squish the other cookie before someone else on my team does.
I did that on Crimson Straight recently. I got the enemy Locust, but I was cut up enough by the end of it that I think I died a minute or two later with only about 200 damage to my credit. It was a waste of a good mech all for the sake of the honor duel.

I don't often duel light v light, but I take full advantage of the fact that most lights will try to disengage with you, meaning I can shoot them in the back while they run away. I also target "little buddy" mechs guarding the assaults/heavies. It probably isn't the "proper" way to do things but I know it is annoying when it happens to me, so I like to return the favor.
