I take more range before heat changes though.

amen.

Sadly in TT the range is 90 meters. I can see them pumping it up to hit 240 max (120 range). That could work. It wouldn't replace the ML, but it would definitely see more usability.

I almost never overheat anyway though. Maybe if I'm fighting more than one opponent on Terra Therma when I'm in a suicidal mood or something.

True, but the builds and the weapon's viability, especially compared to the clan ER version would be more acceptable.

Just had an amazing match in "Sting" my Phoenix LCT-1V, wherein I soloed 2 shiny new Kit Foxes. End result was 286 damage for 3 Kills, and 5 assists. Really wish I had been running fraps.

ETA:
Though TBH one of the KFXs was a LRM boat so I'm not sure he counts

Q: How can a locust be "underrated" when it is the worst mech in the game?

Also, salute to all locust pilots. You must need a wheelbarrow out in front of your mech to carry your balls around in.

actually with that minimum range CLRM crap..they are still a threat to a locust.

you guys all go so liberally with that rear armor..I never give more than 4

A bit of what Tanar was saying, plus most people think "Locust is crap, ignore it" while the other half of the population thinks "ooooo locust, easy kill" Group one you strip their rear armor and crit them out in 2 seconds while they ignore you, and group 2 you bait all the way back to your team.

The mech is always going to be the under-dog in any fight it gets into. It's just that everyone thinks so badly of it, and under-estimates it so much, that you can do ludicrous things with it.

The problem is that you need the right kind of crazy to pilot the mech right.

Also, I truly enjoyed your wheelbarrow comment, that was a good start for my day XD.

I generally give myself a little extra when driving lights simply because I spend so much of my time running AWAY.

An xl 190 and the 4 required heat sinks is a 10 ton investment.... A 250 xl is 12.5 tons and doesn't need any extra heat sinks. Though that would be sorta speedy heh, especially with masc.

Been away for months, I come back and I don't know if it's the improved netcode or what but surviving in a light mech is even harder now.

It's partly the netcode, HSR, and most players trying to kill every light they see with a burning passion.

Id say otherwise just tightly hug that clan lrm boat, the damage of point blank clan lrms is so very pathetic its better to just save the ammo.

It is about 100m -180m where they kinda hurt.

Also since locusts move so fast you should be able to mostly avoid the locks of a bigger clan lrm boat anyway.

It'd be one thing if there was some huge advantage to pure speed, but even then, Commandos are faster and there's not much of a point in going faster than 150km/h. Even Ravens and Jenners pull that off. Speed can only do so much for survivability, a 170km/h mech isn't significantly harder to hit than a 150km/h one, and a lack of jumpjets means that Locusts can't even claim 'most maneuverable' as their niche.

You know those near vertical wall/cliff faces in canyon network? The ones without the pathways you can climb, the ones you have to JJ up cause your mech can't go up them? You can run up pretty much 80% of those in a locust going full speed, and in less time than JJs too. Learning to truly pilot a Locust results in some shocked responses from enemy pilots.

This may be a stoopid question, but consider the source:

Do you think rolling Locust makes you a better pilot/player?

Margins for survival are...slim

Seconding this.
Giving Locust JJ would probably be a nerf. :(

I'm gonna go ahead and blame this above and beyond all the rest. I don't know how many times I've died to a sudden lag spike in a close range brawl that I should be all but untouchable in since they broke something a few patches ago. Makes stalking solo assaults far more dangerous than it used to be. Probably doesn't help that the light queue is super small most of the time since the fall damage patch, so you get stuck in matches against all kinds of people with all kinds of skill levels.

My 'cust 3M put over 170k in my piggy bank after one game yesterday without premium time.

The fast mobile TAG wielding 4xML PITA was annoying the hell out the red team last night, only one of the enemy, a Nova wanted to engage me but every time it broke cover he'd get a splash of red across his windscreen followed by a few lazors then got the inevitable 'incoming missile' warning and have to back off again. I must of been really annoying.

Prior to this I spotted a Spider 5D on our team so i stuck with him and between the two of us gave an Atlas D-DC with ECM a really hard time cancelling his ECM and getting him dark orange before the rest of our team turned up

Still got legged in the end though and got left behind as my team went to mop up.

Yes, I find that piloting a tiny mech without jumpjets forcefully teaches you numerous good habits. Map knowledge, situational awareness, efficient movement, fire/ammo discipline, etc...

Why an XL160?

It's the exact same weight as an XL170, but slower..

This should run better: LCT-1M
