I'm not allowed to post anywhere else but I do have a question. For those who have played the game a lot thus far, what are your experiences in the clan system? Any good experiences? Bad experiences?

If you're referring to clans as in competitive groups there are several under Inner Sphere houses, Merc Corps and the Clans (Kerensky) who compete. Don't know the details since i'm not part of it.
The Clans created by Nicholas Kerensky will be "invading" in july.

I get that technically the word Clans refers to a certain type of gameplay which is not yet released but is much anticipated by veteran players.
I believe you are asking about the various factions/houses one can join. Speaking to this, I am unfamiliar with any other groups, but have appreciated my alliance with the Free Worlds League Mariks. their website is here: http://housemarik.enjin.com/mwohome
Once a member you can choose to join a specific group of them, and there are several recruiting, but as a beginner I prefer to play in the Quick Drop bays available to members of the Marik house.
You sign up as a Marik, then you install teamspeak and associate your user, then you can drop into games with groups of four from the Marik group and be able to work as a team/lance. There are also larger groups you can drop with but I haven't tried that yet.
It's nice to be able to find someone to play with most any time of day when you have time for a game or three.
I have not had any negative experiences to share

The part of the game where units and houses can compete for in game resources is not cative yet, so basically all units (generic Clan as opposed to B Tech specific "Clan") are essentially clubs of people that play together.

What they said, but if you clarify we can give more specific examples.
FTR, the DHB has saved MWO for me. Otherwise i would have probably be coming back when CW comes out.

First, a clarification:
Clans, as in Guilds or other terms for groups of players that play the game together, do exist in MW:O. However, there is no in-game "system" for them yet. It will be coming some time later this year. Officially, we call them Mercenary Units. You can take a look at the recruiting forum to see the units that are advertising for more members. There are a LOT of them. Everybody's experiences are different, and somebody else's experience with a unit has absolutely NO bearing on what you will experience. A random player might say "Unit X is the BESTEST UNIT EVAR!!!" but after joining you might find you cannot stand playing with said unit due to personality differences or whatever.
Clans, as in the BattleTech-specific groups that appear in a lot of the BattleTech novels, will also be in the game. You can pre-order their special 'Mechs now, but they won't be released until June.
My advice:
Get TeamSpeak3 voice comms software if you don't have it already, and go to the ComStar and NGNG servers (info in post #2 and #3 in this thread) and join their public drop channels. Drop with random people until you find some that you like to drop regularly with.
