Every time I steer my mechs with "a" and or "d," the steer is sort of choppy and makes a really long, "laggy" turn. Also when I press space it relieves the turn, but I have to keep tapping space for every turn I make. Any suggestions will help. Thank you.

Your machine specs? CPU, RAM, graphics card, operating system, etc.
What 'Mechs does this happen with? Larger 'Mechs like the Highlander do turn very slowly compared to smaller 'Mechs like the Spider.
Space bar is the default for jump jets. Jump jets do help turn faster, but some 'Mechs don't have jump jets.

Hit F9 and look at the top left hand corner, that will tell you your frames per second. That only with your system specs and a quick test on a speed check web site should tell you where your problem is.
Just from what you said it seems to me to be an issue at your end, hardware or client. I hope that you get your help soonest so that you can enjoy the game as its meant to be played!
