I am ready for another mech but I don't know what to take. I have a not-currently-played Hunchback 4SP and 3 mastered Orion variants in the K, VA and V models. The K has 4xERLL and I do awesome with it. The VA has 2xERPPC and 4xSSRM and is fun and versatile. The V is good with 2xAC5, tag and some missiles but it has no upgrades (10 SHS sucks on Mordor!!) and doesn't do anything that other mechs can't do better so I will probably sell it to make space for something else.
I probably want to focus this mech more on ballistics, either hard hitting or rapid fire, but what to get?
Victor is tougher, has jumpjets and good but low hardpoints.
Cataphract 4X has good symmetrical mixed hardpoints but they are low and it's not as maneuverable.
Jagermech has the beloved symmetrical high ballistic hardpoints, but slower, weaker and less maneuverable.
Shadowhawk has high ballistics and jumpjets, but it's huge and has less tonnage to work with.
Battlemaster has good high hardpoints but might be too similar to what I already have.
Honestly, the Highlander HM would be almost ideal but I refuse to pay money for the game considering how the developers currently handle feedback and communication. I'm thinking the Victor is probably the best 2nd option but the others are tempting in their own way. I will probably get 3 variants of whichever I choose so I want to make a good choice.
Any thoughts?

I love the Victor and the Shadowhawk. Great, versatile mechs that can easily centerpiece a large ballistic. The Victor is currently my favorite mech in the game, 9B with XL350/2LL/AC20/AMS/full JJ. It's a beast.
If you really want the dakka though the jager and the 'phract are the way forward.

Jagermechs have long been my favorite for massive amounts of firepower with some of the best hard point locations possible.
Shadowhawks on the other hand I love for getting down and dirty, even my sniperhawk brawls like a champ.
I bought an Ilya to try out the 'phracts and while I like the pure power of the chassis I hate the low hardpoints.

The phract 4x is awesome with 4 ac5's, they are so intimidating when fired in chain that you can keep several assaults hiding behind cover and buy your team time to position, and can do a 50 dmg alpha when you need her too - here's the build that works for me http://mwo.smurfy-ne...5d727b7d57d8320

I like the idea of the 4x for either the 4xAC5 or a 2xGuass 2xMG 1xERLL combo. Feels like it could be a glass cannon though.
That 9B Victor looks good. I was surprised you could fit that much. I always try to fit 2xERPPC in it and run out of tonnage for heatsinks though. That's my biggest drawback with it. I can't decide a good loadout. I realllllly want 2xAC5 1xAC2 and 2xERPPC but it just won't go

I am a big fan of Jagers and Cataphracts.
If you want something big enough to run with lots of dakka, though, then Victors and Highlanders offer the most ballistic bang for your buck without sacrificing too much mobility (Atlas, Battlemaster) or survivability (Jagermech).

I finally had a chance to get back here. Thanks for the replies. I think I decided on 2 things.
1: I think I will try the Victor because it offers the most variety and versatility when it comes to different configurations (and by extension variety in play styles).
2: I think I will wait for the Feb 4th patch because who knows what changes/fixes/rioting might result and I won't be able to play much in the next 2 weeks anyways
