I haven't played that game. But I can provide some details about MWO. And Welcome!

Once you are updated with the downloads from the Patcher, this tool can help make sure your game client keeps on running: MWO Repair Tool

First go to settings on the bottom right of the screen to lower settings to Low or Medium depending on rig for starters and if you want you can adjust from there. We can help you if need more details. There are also toggles for Arm Lock and Acceleration and ability to remap Keys, also you can adjust mouse settings, so that would depend on what feels better for you.
Spoiler

Then, you will have access to four Trial Mechs and will have four empty mech bays.
Spoiler

But before going into a match check out the Tutorial. To access it click on the gear with the little mech and run the Tutorial.
Spoiler

After that use the Testing Grounds to get a feel for the trial mechs and the weapons to test out different settings.

After that jump in the Trials for at least 25 matches to earn your Cadet Bonus. And before you make your first purchase we can give suggestions based on your preferences.

Hope that's a good start and we are here to help so ask away!

If you have any other questions, ask away here. Many of us are more than willing to help out.

I haven't played Mechassault much, and it's been a very long time. So, sorry. I can't say if your experience there will be the same here.

Do you know what your normal play style might be? We can help you out with possible mech and weapon suggestions if.

Welcome aboard!!

First, the learning curve is quite steep at the moment. You also get a special cadet bonus for the first 25 matches to help you on your way to buying a new mech. Test out the trial mechs and try to get a feel for how to play each weight class to give you an idea where to go for your first mech.
And of course as other have said, if you have any questions feel free to ask!

Can't really compare to Mechassault, but I'm sure if your willing to adapt to something different and love mechs, you should be good to go!

Mechassault 2 had a bunch of other, less approved things in the community, so don't expect it to be very similar to this game. Maybe you may recognize a few mechs here or there, but even then, it's still tough to relate them both together. There is only mechs, it's not a combined arms game, no BA, no VTOL or Aerospace, no tanks, at least as of now and likely in a long time. Also, Controls and this game feels a lot more of a simulator, Mechassault 2 was less simulator and more just action, as it was on XBOX and other consoles.

I'll say though, Mechassault 2 is better than Mechassault Phantom Wars. But pretty much Praetor Shepard covered most of the things.

Edit: Since nobody has linked smurfy yet, here. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab You will find that there is actually customization, unlike Mechassault 2 where you just jack some random mechs to fight the mission, and then when you die you either revert to some checkpoint or eject and go steal more mechs. At least Mechassault 1 had the you only live once prospect, and when mech goes boom, it stays dead.

For your first 25 matches you get a special bonus called the Cadet Bonus.

Premium time will apply it's multiplier (+50%) to the cadet bonus, so I recommend collecting some free premium time to maximize your initial income to get you off to a smoother start. Check my sig for up to 8 free days of premium time; the happyholidays bonus will likely be ending soon

Dude this game is nothing like Mechassault, I with ya thogh on mechassult being a fun game but it plays nothing like a Mechwarrior game. Other than the fact they both have mechs there are no similarity in game play

I never played Lone Wolf. I played the first mechassault, and as far as I can remember, the game was exclusively 3rd person. Here you will be in your cockpit most of the time.

I played MechAssault on XBLA and...this game is far different. Welcome to the game man! Can always use more MechBros.

So happy I can dance!

Well, if you get to play in the 12 v 12 group games a few might say it is currently a lot like Mech Assault online minus the 3pv and the speed.
But apart from that it is more like the other Mech warrior (not Assault or Commander) games... minus the single player campaigns and quite a bit of other stuff.

Mechassault 2 wasn't a particularly good game compared to the Mechwarrior series. It's akin to what Front Mission Evolved did to the Front Mission series.

On MWO, until you get 'elite' skills, there is momentum on all mechs which takes time to accelerate and stop. Once you have them, you cut all that by 55% which is an insane amount that needs to be changed and can't seem to be changed fast enough.

Beyond that, you will find many differences including pulse lasers being lasers of flickering frequencies rather than Klingon Disruptors.

The first was so much better than the second.

They were not really much alike, however, if you want straight run and gun violence, Mechassault is fun.

This game is more...cautious, a thinking man's shooter.

Save your Cadet Bonus (totals up to about 9 to 10Mil C-Bills) once you have all of that, then you can find a mech to buy, I would recommend either buying a mech you have played and liked, or asking in the forums for the ones you haven't played.

Shameless plugin: I am currently writing a thread summarizing each mech in the game.

This game is nothing like MechAssault. I own and have played them.

They take place in the same universe, yes, but this is comparable to the mechwarriror series on PC. I'm guessing you think it looks similar from sceenshots taken in 3rd person. The mechs look great in this game (I remember the graphics of MechAssault 2 also looking fantastic at the time), but they play very very differently. We don't have only 3 weapon systems on a mech, no powerups, nothing like that. It is also multiplayer matches only--no single player campaign.

My advice would be to jump onto a TeamSpeak server and play with some other players. They can guide you through the basics. Obviously I have my favorite, but there are quite a few out there.
