For immersion purposes, since BattleMechs do have cockpit windows (rather than sealed cabs with camera feeds, which would make a lot more sense - even more if they moved the cab to the CT and into the most densely protected part of the machine, but hey, it's 1980's sci-fi
).
I'm enjoying the new glass effect, though I understand it's causing more than a few players grief and an option to disable it would be v. helpful for players who hate it or who have slower graphics cards. I'm all in favour of things which help players enjoy the game more, though if they add the option to disable it I'll keep the glass regardless
