In a surprising announcement, Bullock mentioned that the team will be giving the $240.00 Masakari package for free to players who buy the $500.00 gold packages. That will essentially cut the $500.00 package in half and will be retroactive to those who have already bought a gold package. In fact, some players have already bought a gold package and a Masakari package as well!

Interesting...so they are looking a the possiblity of changing the packages and what not. At the very least, you will get everything when you buy a gold mech i guess. Still no way in hell im paying 500 though.

Now cut the Masakari to $120 and I will more than likely pay. $500? Still no way in hell I can justify that.

Good news for those who spent $500 tho.

I still want to know what limited means. This means that if they do get UI 2.0 and the Launch module ready, I'll definitely be going ubergold, but only if I know how special I will be. 1 in 100? Deal. 1 in 1000? Eh... I want a counter, dammit!

And everyone is spelling it wrong. It's Masarati package.

I wish I was British because the title would be funnier. Otherwise nice read, noticed ole Russ still can't quite keep the bitterness out but it seems he is trying.

Interesting development. it looks like Russ is taking a lot more ownership for things lately. Still waiting to pass final judgement but it's a step in the right direction

Still too expensive. Do they want ONLY the upper middle-class playing this game?

IMO the $500 gold plated mechs were never a problem. They're a joke, or a status symbol, or whatever you want your $500 to mean.

The problem with the Clan packs, as I see it, is that they are making you buy things you don't want in order to get to the things that you do want. That's what smacks of a borderline-immoral business practice. I'd be like if you wanted to buy a Ferrari, and instead of $200,000, they made you pay $300,000 and you had to take home 3 Ford Focuses.

$60 is the limit I'm willing to spend in one shot on a video game, not because I'm spacepoor, but just because I don't like throwing money away on stuff I don't want or need. $60 here would get me one mech I'm not really thrilled with, and one I don't want at all, so I won't be buying. $90 is the lowest point that gets me something decent, and I'm just not willing to spend that much.

If all (or even the lower half) of the mechs included in the pack are available individually for c-bills or MC on the release date, it won't be so bad. If I have to wait 3 months to get something I want, and 8 months to see all of them in general release, then that will be time that I'm just not playing.

They did it with the Phoenix pack too and no one ever called them on it, so now they've cranked it up to 11 with an eight-tier pack. Not cool, IMO.

Aside from it being nothing at all like your analogy, the article mentions they are working on that as well.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle the reshuffle for people that already paid. I kind of wish the community had made more noise about the Phoenix packs not being structured like the Founder's packs (where you got to pick) instead of being strictly tiered.

It seems obvious to me in retrospect that Phoenix was a test of what they could get away with in terms of a pricing structure that's... less than respectful to customers.

Apparently the lesson is PGI only responds when the forums become a dumpster fire. So folks remember if you want PGI to take notice don't bother with constructive criticism. Go full on flame and they will actually listen. Sad it takes that, but again these people seem to be tone deaf to their audience unless there are fire alarms ringing.
They tried to push the prices as far as they could and now after uproar they react. Then they wonder why they get these dumpster fires. Instead of reacting before the dumpster is afire might help but I guess when you're trying to squeeze out as much money as possible based on the same promises from the previous sale this is what you get.
They allowed the forums to fester over this without any response and now this is the way they will have to deal with issues in the future, good way to handle it. Don't nip it in the bud allow it to flower into a blaze.

TL;DR version of this:

"Good work, PGI! Thank you!"

What the fried hell? I go away for a while and I come back to $500 gold-plated mechs? Is this some WoT troll going on? The Tier Packages too, I saw that, laughed, and put my wallet away before I got it out of my pocket all the way. Won't even repeat exactly what I said when I finally noticed the Khan Collection.

NOPE.

When you get a gold one, is there a single gold variant or do you choose which variant you want to be gold? I'm really tempted. If they took bitcoin I'd have one already *hint*hint*nudge*nudge*
